Coluzzle or ShapeCutter by Fiskars

I currently have the shapecutter, but am starting to have problems with it. I also havent found all that many templates that I care for.

I have been checking into the templates for the Coluzzle. I am wondering how well does it work? Do u have any problems with it tearing the paper/picture while cutting?

I love my Coluzzle. Use all sorts of templates with it, from nesting mats, to letters, to border--I highly recommend it.

I prefer Coluzzle and own probably 90% of their templates.

i couldnt work that darn Coluzzle if my life depended on it. i wanted to try the shape cutter though.

I have both and I don't like the Fiskars shape cutter, but I love my Coluzzle. Of all my alphas, including my sidekick alphas, I love the Coluzzle alphas the best, same goes for shapes. I love the nested templates and I use the tags a lot too.

I have both and enjoy both (I also have the CM system and a Blade Runner which I actually like, which probably makes me really weird) but I do have a hard time with the Hawaiian alphabet I recently bought from Coluzzle. I think I may have even cut the stencil on the first cut -- by the time I got the letters finally cut cleanly enough to use (after several tries and some wasted paper) I still had to do a lot of scissor cutting...but that's my first alpha so maybe it's just that particular one? I bought it so I could have more alphas instead of buying a die cut machine, but I caved on Sunday and bought a Sizzix anyway lol

sounds like i made the wrong purchase, everyone seems to enjoy the coluzzel system much better than fiskars - so far my fiskars is ok, but i do run into problems.

i really dont like the colluzel. my sis swore by it- my LSS said she didnt like it. I guess I either cant figure the darn thing out or i have no patience for it- i am constantly cutting into the side of it and it gets frustrating

well i bought the coluzel, but still havent tried it. I have been so busy working on getting my webiste ud running.

Make sure you have the correct mat and knife with it. And you need to remove the thin plastic covering from both sides. Otherwise it is not going to work correctly and will be very frustrating.

I have the Shape Cutter. I like it but yes, I run into some problems. Sometimes I use it and it's like slicing butter, it works so perfectly and seamlessly and I love the paper shapes I get! Other times, it works less than ideal. The thing that helps me the most is focusing on gently pushing the blade against the template (rather than downwards towards the paper, which tends to snag). Also, I've come to terms with the fact that this just doesn't work on superthick cardstock (it depends on the brand, it cuts my Stack cardstock fine, but it's not so hot with my Club Scrap cs). It's not worth it for me to buy another system (like Coluzzle) just yet, as I'm satisfied enough with the Shape Cutter now, but who knows, maybe I'll check out another cutting system for the future. I hear good things about the CM circle/oval cutters so I'll probably go with that when I've had my fill of the Shape Cutter (which I don't use very often anyway)...

I agree, that sometimes it would slice like butter. And other times it snagged a lot. So I changed the blade...which hasnt help much. I use my shape cutter often, for cropping photos. I usually use the original also, so I cant afford for it to snag. I went ahead and bought the Coluzzle - and it seems to work fine so far. My mom is buying my Shaper Cutter and templates. So I will still have access to them.

I love my Coluzzle and probably have most of them, including the jigsaw puzzle cuts. i love it. it does have some quirks at times, but if you hold your hand loose (not tight) on the knife, the cuts are good. use my tags all the time and just got the file folder - love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a shapecutter - and i hate it. they came out with a new "improved" cutting tool, but i hear that it's almost as awful and hard-to-manage as the original.

i often use the colluzle at my LSS, and i much prefer it!

Coluzzle is the best!! There is this thin plastic stuff you need to remove first before cutting or it will snag every time! Just make sure your blade is sharp and your hands are loose. In fact...I always keep extra blades near by just in case.

I have both (got them when I started, about four years ago). I use the coluzzle constantly--nested templates, borders, puzzle pieces, alphas--use it more than any die cut machine. (I didn't buy a machine until this last year.) I've used the Fiskars one time--to make a curve for one of my lo's.

I have the shapecutter and do not like it. Wow with all the good reviews about the coluzzle.... hmmmmm I might "need one"

I just ordered a coluzzle online from Joann's. I haven't recieved it yet, but I'm very excited. Does anyone know what stores have templates (in person)? I can find them all over online but not actually in the stores.

I have some of the Coluzzle. I like them but does anyone think they are a little pricey or am I just cheap? I had been buying my templates at our local Ben Franklin store but they are discontinuing them. The only thing I don't like is cutting the little connectors of paper off.

I got my coluzzle in the mail yesterday and my husband was home (to watch the babe) so I had time to try it. I do really like it. It took me a few minutes to figure out but then when I held the knife straight up and down and pressed hard it worked great. I only have 5 templates and an alpha so I can't wait to get more.

THe coluzzle is so great and easy to work for me. I have had trouble using my shape cutter. I've practiced with it over and over again but I still don't have the hang of it. I've heard the shape templates and blades from Creative Memories are great. I want to try those.

Do you need to have the "coluzzle knife??" I have the system, but the craft knife came without a blade. I ordered new ones (blades) and I never found them...advice?

Yes...you need the knife....it looks like a regular craft knife BUT it can spin all the way around without you moving your hand. I guess that is what makes it move so great around the template. Try your local scrapbook store to buy one.

I have the shapecutter. It's ok. I have trouble cutting more detailed shapes. I can't always keep it against the side and it ends up cutting into my image. It works for now but I'm sure I'll get a Coluzzle someday.

I have to weigh in on this one!!!! I have both and hate the shapecutter. Anyone want to buy one? LOL! On the other hand Coluzzle is the best! I could not live without it! And yes the Hawaiian alphabet is a little bit tricky compared to their other alphabets but so worth it. The script alphabet is also a little tougher than the others if you are a beginner but you will get the hang of it after a few uses.

Just one more tip on the coluzzle. I always used to tell people that they should hold their wrist as if they were wearing a cast on a broken arm and to move the whole arm. Let the blade do the turning not you. Most people try to turn their wrist - doesn't work. Hope that helps

I, too, am a BIG coluzzle fan! If you need some tips for how to hold the blade correctly, e-mail me and I will share some tips that I got. I love that Michaels has their 40% off coupons...I either buy them there or from Close to my Heart, which carries some templates that can be harder to find at local scrapbook store s.

I love my coluzzle...hate the fiskars shapecutter. The coluzzle takes a little practice but once you get used to it it is great, I NEVER got used to using the shapecutter and had nothing but trouble with it.

OK, I used the Shapecutter for the first time in a few months this past weekend. It worked like a charm. Of course, I was using not-too-thick PP and doing the wave and grass borders (more free-form edging rather than really defined shapes), so that helped. But I just wanted to share that though the Shapecutter frustrates me sometimes, I absolutely LOVED it this weekend!

I got my coluzzle a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE it. I've been getting so many templates off ebay. I recently got the oval puzzle and tried it last night. It looks great!

I have been in search of a a cutter for the coluzzle that i saw showcased on tv.. it was clear, acrylic??? anybody know???

I use the shapecutter as well and agree it can be frustrating at times. It all comes down to the blade setup. When it works well though it is a great product.
