Straight-edge or Rotary cutter??

I want to buy a paper cutter, but I don't know which is better - the straight-edge ones or the rotary cutters, or does it even matter? I am new to this site - my sister just told me about it yesterday when I asked her if she knew which was better and she had no idea. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

straight for me! The Falcon is my favorite.

I have the Fiskars 12" straight edge. I love it! I have a friend who has both. She doesn't recommend the rotary. Your best bet is probably a straight edge. Hope it helps!

Creative Memories has a cutting system that you buy in parts it includes Ovals and Circles (with the ability to make mats to instantly be the right size for the circle or oval picture) Then they also have the 'border buddy' which lets you cut straight lines - or 2 different wavy lines. It is kind of hard to explain - but if you have access to a creative memories consultant ask to see it. I love mine. I keep the mat out all the time and use the 'border buddy' constantly.

I own several kinds of cutters because of a business I had in my home. The best is definitely the Falcon Cutter in my book. I have owned and returned 3 brand new Fiskars rotary cutters because they just don't consistently cut straight. Someone said they are trying to redesign them, but until then, they're just not dependable enought to use.
The Falcon cutter is inexpensive to buy...around $21-24 each. I think they sell them online here at this site. The other advantage to the Falcon is you can use regular razor blades as replacements, which you can purchase at any Home Improvement store for about 4 cents each. You are using both ends of the razor blade before you're having to throw it away,too, so it's cheap to use to get great, crisp, clean cuts! It sure beats buying expensive cutter-specific blades from Fiskars for any of their cutters.

Love my 12" Fiskars cutter. I also love my CM oval and circle cutters!

The Creative Memories cutting system(circles and ovals) are the best.I have never seen anything like them.They are so easy to use and I barley make any mistakes using them.It is really a terrific tool and best of all it is very simple to use. I highly recomend it.

I have both the Falcon and the rotary.

I use the Falcon the most and if I only had one would pick that BUT I can't get the hang of the decorative scissors so I really do like using the rotary cutter for decorative edges.

You can get it at Costco with 3 extra blades for $29.99

I still dont have the hang of my Fiskars rotary cutter, but LOVE my CM system. I was using the border buddy to crop instead of my Fiskars, so just bought the CM personal cutter today.

I cant wait to start cropping with it tomorrow!

I think I am going to return my Fiskars and get something else....any suggestions?

I have the Carl 12 inch rotary cutter and love it! You can get different blades for it also to make the shaped edges. There is also a scoring blade and perforating blade you can get. Blades last a long time and are $3 - $5 each depending where you get them.

I have the Fiskars and they don't cut straight. I bought the Cutterpede (spelled) and I love it. You can get different blades, it cuts straight, and it has a magnetic strip that holds the ruler down on the paper.

I had 2 different Fiskars cutters, a personal trimmer and the larger one. When I first got the personal trimmer it was making soooo MAD!. IT was cutting crooked all the time. I figured out that you have to cut toards you, but it still cuts crooked. I am a quilter and have always liked Fiskars brand for my scissors and rulers, etc., but I really really HATE their trimmers.
After reading a similar thread I decided to purchase the Falcon cutter and absolutely LOVE it. I HIGHLY recommend it!

I have a Fiskars 12 inch rotary cutter and I've had very few problems with crooked edges. My LSS has the same cutters in their classroom.

i have several cutters. my rotary cutter is a carl and it is a great cutter but when i'm at home i use my boston paper which is the old fashioned kind i grew up with with the big arm coming down. is that a staight edge? i've had it for 6 years and haven't had to get a new blade. i bought it at an office suppy, and picked boston, because they've always made great office products. good decision

The Carl is my favorite. I hope you find what you want
