Can anybody stop them self from buying scrap supplies?

I can't imagine myself stop buying any scrap supplies. I have to buy something everyday. If I don't I feel sick. Is addiction I think, maybe I need to go rehab.

That's why we're all here.......so we can stop feeling bad or alone about our addiction!

I used to buy a lot of scrapping supplies too but not to the extend of everyday. But recently, I've controlled myself pretty well by staring at my stack of supplies everyday. With that, I won't be buying anymore supplies unless I have an idea of my layout in my head and only get those supplies that I need and aren't in my stack.

Are you a new scrapper? I bought alot in the beginning.

I'm suffering this sickness too....I just HAVE to have gorgeous new stuff that comes out and I dread to think how much I have spent on stuff that a)I might never use and b) I can't really afford!! Addiction really is the word. I'm almost ready to ban myself from buing new stuff for a while but, like starting a diet, I always say "I'll start tomorrow"!!

yup. i even "need" some stuff because i'm out of refills for my xyron 250. But I've got CK Manchester in 2 weeks and I want to be able to have a shopping spree there. Besides, I'm not scrapping a lot right now because I'm having organziational issues - like i'm not organized and need to be.

I bought a lot when I first began, but now it is far more controlled. I was working when I began. Now I am not, so I have to be pretty thoughtful about the things I want. Seriously, I waited from Christmas to yesterday to acquire black stamping ink.

Like Moxiegirl, I'm holding off on purchases until CK Manchester. My mother's day gift will be cash to spend as I wish there

I am still fairly new to SBing and I find myself still having the urge to buy more stuff. I have tons of papers, stickers, glues, tapes, letters, etc. but their is always someone on this site talking about something that I want to buy. Like my sissix, I want die cuts because I just don't have enough! I also don't feel that I have enough papers that match or coordinate, like solids and prints, saying that I have about 400-500 sheets of paper. Shopping is definitely an addiction! I guess you can say I am an addict!

Honestly, there are people who are addicted to shopping. Needing to buy something every single day can't be healthy...

I'm planning on buying more stuff today and I don't need it. I have extras of just about everything and stuff I will never use but if your ever over my house to scrap you only need to bring pictures..LOL.It is a sickness but it's really my only vice and my DH doesn't care how much I buy and I love opening my bins and seeing all my supplies...It makes me happy...

I spent a lot in the beginning....long long ago ( oh ok, only two years ago). Now I go to the scrapbook sections and look around and say to myself "ok, have that, and that, and that..." Yikes! Really I only look for new tools that are not just a fashion for now. I like endurance.

I generally plan shopping sprees - the advantage of living in a town without an LSS. The nearest one is half an hour away, so any trip there is pre-planned.

Ladies, it is cheaper than therapy!!!

i joined the "Scrap Fasters" thread here, we encourage each other to limit our spending to things we 'need' not to just go out and buy just to have.

I know i've cut back a lot, i'm at the point where I have enough to use for awhile and i'm dreading moving it all in a couple months when our house is done! I stopped going by the LSS, and slowly my withdraws began to fade

I was this same way last year. I would go to Joann, Michaels, AC Moore, online stores, etc. a few times a week. But then I found that if I didn't get in my car and drive, I wouldn't spend the money. If I felt an "urge" to go, I'd just try to keep my mind occupied with something else (scrapping....). This is working really well! I did spend money at a local scrapbook expo last weekend, but I was proud of myself to only spend $60 over the two days... and I hadn't bought anything in months!

Staying out of the stores is the best rehab! LOL.

I put more thought into each purchase now. When I first started, I bought a ton! Now, I only buy things that I know I will use. (Eventually.)

I feel the same way sometimes....i keep buying stuff and not really putting it to use. I started buying alot of embellies...now I can't stop buying paper! I'm hoping to put some of it to use this weekend! I finally got it all organized...buying new stuff is all soooo tempting~

I have to agree. When I first started to sb I would spend all of my paychecks every two weeks at the sb stores buying whatever I wanted. And now I have a lot of stuff that Im like "why did I buy this?" or "when will I ever use this???"!

I'm slowly weeding out the stuff I won't ever use and sending RAKS out to friends & family. And now I've limited myself to spending no more then $40 every month on scrapbooking. It can be for new supplies, tools, or storage.

Hey...you and hubby "who doesn't care how much [you] buy" want to adopt me!?!

I can walk into a store and walk out with nothing. I feel like a freak that I can say that.

I frequently don't come out with anything when I do shop, too.

It doesn't make us freaks, just in the minority.

I now keep a monthly 'tab' of my scrapbook purchases. LOL. We are college students who own our own house... our spending **should** be limited for a while!

haha I'm the same way also, except it's when I help my boyfriend pick out ties. I bet he's just about sick of me saying, "wow I could really use that pattern/color in my scrapbook." But I do get a lot of inspiration for color schemes from them!

Oh boy, talk about buying supplies - I have been the worst, and now I have many items stashed away here and there, sometimes forgetting what I have. It is an adiction (fun one) and now I find myself asking "do I really need this, and what exactly am I going to do with it" - this helps. Why today stopped in the lss (funny how the car just automatically turns into their parking lot) and came out with a few sheets of paper with some matching embellies!!!!

I have that problem too. I need to start using it before hubby cuts me off from buying the stuff.

Hubby goes shopping with me and now it's a lot easier to walk out of the store without buying something than it was when I go to the store by myself.

Plus now having a tighter budget because of a new job has helped me out a lot too. Not to mention I really, really want the CraftRobo so I am trying not to spend $$ on anything else so I can get it sooner. Doesn't help my LSS is going out of business either at the end of the month (she wants to be a SAHM again because she really misses being with the kids).

I have a few things on hand, but for the most part I buy only what I need when I need it.

I really think twice now when I consider buying an item. I used to just buy impulsively, but I'm running out of storage space and extra cash. I'm really holding back on paper right now, but I don't mind buying tools like the crop-a-dile I just bought because I know I'll use if forever.

Gosh, if you drove across the Phoenix metro area its about an hour to an hour and a half. A half hour is nothing for a drive here!

Same here, I buy most of my stuff online. I have an LSS but it's only open once a month and except for pp (which I still like to buy IRL more than online) they don't have mucht mentionworthy.

I get myself a budget, usually 50 or 75 €, and that includes shipping.

I usually go a bit over, cause if I don't get that item, I'll end up at like 49.95€ and we can't let THAT happen!

This month no online shopping tough. Had a sticker machine put aside and I'll buy a LOT of paper LOTS LOTS LOTS

Sometimes I find a little something in a random store, that I think "this would be so cute for my scrapbook" and I buy'd buy it too. But that doesn't happen to often (I look every time tough)

I know about the addiction! Every week I hit Joanns, Beverlys, Michaels and all the lss in the area. I have spent already $200 this month doing swaps, buying bottles of stickles, paper, etc that has all been on sale!!!

I do that all the time. I use to buy stuff just because it was there, but I've really worked on that habit. I prefer to get kits, like my 2 club kits, then keep it together, until it's diminished. I do more scrapping that way, and actually save money, because I use it all up.

I would go to the rahab for scrappers as well ( wait.. is there a Michaels near by ? How far to the LS ? ) LOL!

The better question is "Why would anyone want to stop buying supplies!"

Hubby and I argue about this all the time, scrap supplies are not a renewable resource therefore they must be re-purchased once used up ( sort of like the fact after a round of golf he has to go buy another dozen balls for the next round)!!

I haven't completed a no shopping challenge in a while. Sometimes I can go a week or two... but generally I do better if I limit myself by the amount I can spend - no more than $5 this week or $30 this month, etc. I am better able to limit myself by where I go - only to M's this week, or Big Lots or 1 trip to the lss. But the truth is that I have enough supplies to make plenty of pages there really is no need to shop - I would do better actually scrapping instead.

I go through streaks..Last month I was on a spending frenzy and this month we are broker than broke! Then I feel guilty because I should have put that money on bills not my habbit!

I always get a $30 or 40 "allowance" for the week and alot of that used to go for fast food lunches when I was at work or out with the kids. Now I pack lunches and snacks most of the time so I spend my "allowance" on scrapbook supplies. Plus we eat healthier too!
