matte or glossy and why???

Just edited 212 vacation pictures at walmart.com and they came matte only. The woman said it was 1/2 the price of glossy. But I usually choose glossy---don't really know why. Does anyone have a preference, and why?

That is was half the cost seems odd. I've never been charged differently. I prefer matte as it doesn't show fingerprints as readily.

I love matte because it does not show fingerprints and you can get adhesive off of it if you are messy. I forgot to check the "matte" box on my Snapfish order once and I still have not scrapped all those pics because I find it so hard to deal with glossy prints.

I like the look of shiny ...but i do think that finger prints are annoying...then again i don't remember the last time i "picked up" pictures i print them all at home now...as i need them.

Matte or glossy, depends on what the photos are for... I like both!

because of the way the light reflects off matte paper, pictures don't seem as sharp/in focus. you can buff finger prints off glossy rather easily, and prints show up on matte, it's just harder to see them. matte paper and glossy paper are the same price on a wholesale cost, there is no cost difference in maunfacturing AFAIK.

I prefer glossy because of the sharpness issue. I have some photos that look completely out of focus until I printed them on glossy paper and saw they are fine.

same here, glossy is much more crisp. with the matte pics, the finish consist of small bumps & holes, making the light reflect in 1001 different directions. This also makes that little details are less visible. Matte is good for when you have skin issues to hide (like acne, or psoriasis) but I prefer my pics to SHINE SHINE SHINE!

that way, they also stand out a bit more from the scrapping paper.

I do my photos at walmart.com, but pick them up instore and they have always come back glossy.

It's easier to offer only one type of paper, less things you have to do to the machine. WM has the same equipment I do, and they don't use it to it's potential.

I only order matte. i also only get matte at walmart. they have never asked me if i wanted matte or glossy. Now, i use winkflash and i get to pick the finish.

What I understand from my WM is that if you want it in an hour, its going to be matte. Glossy, tkaes 2 days because its actually done in a lab in another city. That is actually cheaper, I guess because of the time they have to do it?
I've uploaded twice because I was too lazy to print myself. And, I got them in an hour. They were fine, but I really prefer glossy. When I print at home, I use glossy.

thanks Shirley for clearing that up for me. I did use the 1 hour process. I didn't know that if I chose the 1-hour I would get matte and if I chose the 2 day processing I would get glossy. I really prefer glossy, and I also print glossy at home.

I like matte for the less obvious fingerprints, and and ATG just wipes right off it. Also they sand easier, I love the sand the edges of a pic!

I like matte if I'm using them to scrapbook. Less fingerprints, and after I put them in page protectors , it really cuts down on the glare.

I'm not totally sure why I like it this way, I just do.

I've also heard that with walmart (and walgreens) if you order 1 hr it only comes in matte.

I almost always print at home and sometimes my matte isn't as clear, colors not as bright. So I prefer glossy.

I use the Kodak machine instead of the Wal-Mart one. The pics come out glossy and are stain resistant. They cost about 7 cents more

I am a matte finish person. Don't like the glare, fingerprints of glossy. And also, I don't like the edges of a glossy print after I crop it. For some reason it just doesn't seem as clean a cut.

I use to get glossy all the time, one day I decided to get a matte set & I have not seen another glossy pic since that time...I love the look of matte...

Niether of mine do this. You only get matte is you have it shipped to you. 1 hr is always glossy.

I've always prefered glossy finish. Somehow the pictures just look more "alive" to me.

Wow, this is confusing! All my walmart.com pictures have been glossy, no matter whether it was 1 hour or picked up later. I myself prefer glossy too. I'm not really sure why, but perhaps it's because my parents always used glossy?

I like both, but I mostly print my photos glossy. I have a cloth I bought from Creative Memories that I wipe my photos with, so there are no fingerprints.

Me too.............I don't know why but I like matte best too....I have the little Epson Picture Mate printer but hardly use it because the paper I have for it is glossy. I have heard you can get matte too........now that I am reminded of this I will print some glossy and see how I feel about it.......aren't we silly............

I love matte photos because they look more professional, the color is usually better adnd they don't show finger prints as easily. But that is just my opinion.

I like matte. I think they look more... real.

I don't like the fingerprints on glossy. I've also noticed that some glossy prints will stick to my trimmer (and get scratches from my trimmer somehow) and will even stick to page protectors !

I also get my photos printed at yorkphoto.com because I've found them to be the cheapest - and they also do a cool digital photo size that is cool!

I Love the Matte over Glossy as well. There is just something about the look of it that I like and also it works for the photo tinting I do-glossy doesn't work at all.

I like the glossy prints. They seem to be clearer and brighter looking to me. If you can see any finger prints I have the Creative Memories cloth to use.
