Has anyone used this yet? Does it work well?

I haven't upgraded my Cameo software ever since I thought I heard it caused some problems. The Pix Scan would require a software upgrade.

It also requires a special mat.

So before I take the plunge, I wanted to see if anyone has any feedback and if it's worth it.

I've used it a couple of times--once for an actual layout, the other times just as practice on scrap paper. It works, but it takes time, patience, and practice...also helps to watch some videos too! So many of the problems with Version 3 have been worked out that it shouldn't be a problem...I say "shouldn't" because there was another update to V3 release just last week and I haven't heard much of anything regarding it (good or bad).

I used the PixScan to cut a circle from a photo--I could pick the size of circle I wanted and placed it exactly where I wanted it because of the mat, instead of guessing and hoping for the best just putting a circle on the virtual cutting mat and my photo on the real mat.

My phone doesn't have the greatest camera, but it still works. You just need to know how to trace and clean up the trace a little if necessary.

Maybe I'll watch some videos and see how much time, patience and practice it may require, sometimes I don't have much of the first two

Have you ever tried cutting pictures just on a regular matt? I mean in theory couldn't you put a heart somewhere on the silhoutte matt screen and have it cut that area on the photo you place on the regular matt?

You can, but if fine precision is important, you might want the registration marks to make sure it cuts in exactly the right place - there's the possibility for human error when placing the mat and paper, and even a millimeter could make the difference if trying to cut a stamped image or a small pattern out of paper.

I see what you're saying, aquabunny. And for most of my photos I want that precision, but there are a few (e.g. closeups with lots hair or clothing near the edges of the frame), I'm finding work if I cut a mat and place it over the photo. don't know if I'm brave enough yet to stick a photo in the machine.

I just got the pix scan mat and am going to try and cut a movie logo from a picture. It's easier to line up the lines for a more precise cut.

Has anyone tried to fussy cutting with the Pix Scan? I would love to be able to cut some Graphic 45 paper on a cutter instead by hand.
