Cricut's YUDU???

Topic Closed
  • Thaiti30
I just got an email from Cricut Newsletter about this new product out now called the YUDU! Anyone heard of this new product????
I just wanted to know what anyone thought about this product and it's features.

Here is the link for the video:

  • Just G
looks like way too much work
  • NoirCat
It seems like a very nice home product if you make a lot of screen prints.
  • Just G
10 min to prep the screen
    20 - 30 minutes to dry
    8 minutes to emulse
    20 to do the shirt

I can run to walmart faster
  • Gg Loves Matthew
I saw it and it really is nothing that I am interested in......I think Provo Craft, in this economy should have concentrated more on low ticket items than to try and get this big thing out there.
  • Thaiti30
I agree with you it takes too long and there are too many steps. HSN has it for $279 I think that's too much for my blood!!!
    lol

Yeah...I got an email about this. My first reaction was "cool," then I realized that I would never use this in a million years!
  • ScrapperSara22
I saw that at a CHA preview... agreed too much money and WAY too big! Where the heck am I supposed to put that thing! I can see that it would be cool to design your own albums, shirts, etc... for some sbing conventions, but just not worth it right now! I'm happy with what I have!
  • Ariel21
Looks like a great product but I don't think I would actually use it all much. And it's such a large unit, did you see how much space it took on the counter in the demo?

not worth it unless you are making tshirts to sell. Even then it would be a full time job
  • Diva Scraps
Goodness that is a BIG machine...lol...it does look fun though, but I think I'll stick with DD using good ol $4 crayola fabric crayons for now..lol
  • FutureRN22boys
OMG that is a big price tag, I'd rather pay someone to make my t-shirts!
  • BlingQueenRia
I saw it too. I think I will stick to my current method of designing them on my computer, flipping the image, and printing them on iron-on transfers for applying to shirts. So much easier and less time consuming not to mention cheaper.
  • Scrapali22
I agree with you blingqueenria, and it took way too long!!!
  • Thaiti30
I think provcraft is just coming out with anything just to make a quick buck!!!!!
  • Jennifer Priest
I saw the demo at CHA and have pics of the machine on my slide show on my blog post from Fri. It is a bit pricey in this economy but for a school, boys & girls club, scouting or day care type thing where you need mass shirts produced or want a craft i think it would pay off in the long term. The machine does some with stuff to make 2 shirts but the refills I think are over $30 so I am not sure that it is cost effective compared to local screen printers or stuff like CafePress.
  • Thaiti30
I hear ya!!! I think it's too big and bulky. But I do see where it can come in handy for others. Thanks for sharing everyone!!!!
  • Gayle3131
Looks cool, but I'd never use it!
  • Thaiti30
Well I'm waiting for something better to come along!

    FYI:
ACMoore has it for $299.99It's huge!!!! OMG! the accessories are not cheap either. I now know I won't purchase this item at all!!!!
  • KellyCali
Just barely saw the informercial for this product this morning!

Very neat, but does seem like a lot of work!

(And um, for the record, like I yet need another hobby!)

  • KellyCali
You Just Might Be Addicted To Scrapbooking If...

    - You spend time watching craft-related infomercials

    - You're sitting at home watching TV and get excited when you spot a familiar image by Provo.

(In this case, it was the row of owls, from my Home Decor cart!)

  • Paperwife
KellyCali, you're SO right!! I'm especially partial to the new Yudu infomercial though...some of my projects are in it.
  • *vojo*
Oh my goodness that is a big 'ol machine, lol. I wouldn't have any interest in one, especially at that price.
  • Memories4Ever
I think it's pretty cool, but the whole time I was watching the video (besides admiring the kitchen) I was thinking how expensive the supplies must be. I cringed when I saw how much ink she used and then was going to wash it down the sink.
  • Seaexplore
I like the idea but as others have said it's too expensive and HUGE for what it does!

I would love to do my own silk screening BUT it seems like too much to deal with when I want more than one color! Apparently you have to do several different screens, one for each color and at 20 min per dry time plus all the rest of the time and dry time in between each! OMG! When would I have time to do my job that I get paid to do?
  • LoveKWM
Seriously, who spends hours searching for a t-shirt that expresses their personality?

I actually learned how to screen print in HS. It's not terribly hard, it's just not something that I would spend time doing for one or two shirts. It only makes sense if you needed to make multiples of a certain design for a team or something. I wouldn't spend the money.
  • CommaHolly
LOL, I guess it's all what you're into,,,some people would spend 400.00 on a cricut without blinking,,,,but cringe at 279.00 for this machine,,,but if you LOVE to screen print (and I'm assuming you can screen print far more than T-shirts) I'd think it would be worth it,,,,

Not for me,,,but if that's your craft of choice, then maybe it's worth it to you,,,,

    Holly
  • Thaiti30
I know that's the truth but too bad i paid way less for my cricut expression than the price of this YUDU machine!!!!!
I think Provo craft could have came up with something better than just this long process of a machine.
  • CommaHolly
I thought the Yudu went for roughly the same as the cricut expressions (279.00)???

I got mine for $199.99 before the store hours closed. I couldn't believe it! I was shaking all the way home! LoL

wow, that's the best price i've seen!!! holly

They were demo-ing this at CHA. It isn't something that I am interested in. But Provo Craft serves the entire craft industry - not just scrapbooking/paper crafting.

I was given a Yudu to test drive & I really like it much more than I thought I would. I'm a SBer & hadn't ever screen printed before...but now I can't stop LOL!

You can read about my Yudu experience on my blog:

You don't have to wash the ink down the sink (although it's perfectly safe to do so), you can reclaim it & put it back in the bottle to use later.
  • Craftomatic78
Thanks for the report! I think YUDU is a brilliant idea. I've been wanting to get into screen printing but it looked so daunting. The mftr video made it look easy, and your blog makes it seem even easier.
  • Paperwife
I too thought it would be more difficult than it was seeing as how I hadn't ever screen printed before I got the Yudu....but the Yudu made it much more simplified than traditional screen printing & it's really fun to work with.
  • MOMMYLUV3480
    sounds cool but complicated !
  • -Jenn-
I saw the yudo on QVC a while ago. it looks cool, but EXPENSIVE!! I guess it's something where you can put deco on your shirts or other items. but you use so much ink it's like a waste of money! it looks cool though.
  • Thaiti30
Thanks for sharing "paperwife" how did you get to sample this item??? I would love to know more???
  • Paperwife
    I PM'd ya Thaiti.
  • CrazyMango
I just got the Yudu on sale at Michaels and with my step-daughter's employee discount, got if for a reasonable price! We're having fun playing with it. It is more than just silk-screening t-shirts. Very cool.
  • Paperwife
I'd love to see what you make with it CrazyMango. I've printed on a whole bunch of stuff...fabric, canvas, felt, vinyl...turns out great.

Me too! CrazyMango. I saw at the store that you can do canvas bags, belts, and other stuff.
Can wait to see what you create with it!
