Making envelopes for your cards?

I have an envelope template from Memory Makers that I just love to make all diffrent sizes. I got mine at HL for not very much.

They make envie templates.

CTMH has envie flats now in all different sizes so you can use it as a template to make patterned paper envies to match your cards.

Thanks for replying to my question about envelope making.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is HL? I live in a small town and don't have access to big craft shops.

I use the die cut machine at my LSS. It has a template for the 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 cards I make.

this is gunna sound crazy, but diy had a template for envelopes on there really old scrapbook show. but i bet the template can still be found somewhere on their website.

There is a new product out called a Scor Pal. LOVE IT...a LSS had one to demo and I tried it. Awesome.

On the manus website they have instructions on how to make different sized envies as well as boxes etc.

i got a create-a-lope from J's- I have two sizes and can use any paper I want, fabric, wall paper, etc.. it's pretty cool! i recommend it! I never buy envies anymore- make em all.... 8o)

On DIY scrapbooking earlier this week they showed, after you find one envelope that would fit the card that you are making, carefully take it apart and use that as your template to make as many as you need. This way you can match your envelope to the card. They also have templates on their web sight that you can print off. Good luck.

I realize this is an old thread but the question is bound to come up again and someone will stumble across all these ideas.

Anna Griffin has a template for diffetenr sized cards and envelopes. They are made of thin flexible plastic and are very easy to use. Since buying these 2 years ago, I've not had to buy any envelopes!

I have never used any templates so far. I just measure the card give an extra 1/4" on the side & top of the card so that the card fits in just right. I then make the flaps. It has worked out fine.

I've never had much luck trying to make an envelope from scratch (without a template) after the card is done, so I always plan the envelope at the same time as the card.

I just take store-bought cards I've received from others, or even those blank greeting cards you sometimes get in the mail free from charities. I make sure I have a matching card and envelope, then I make my card to match the size and shape of the other card. Then I carefully peel apart the matching envelope and use it as a template. I've since chosen a few favorite sizes, and made sturdier templates from cardstock. It works like a charm.

Envelopes are also something that I think get better with practice. (My first couple were awful, but I'm happy with them now.) Also, I recommend using a strong adhesive, if you're using heavy cardstock - the envelopes have a tendency to want to pull apart. I always use at least a couple of Glue Dots on them now, and that holds them together with no problem. I also recommend not gluing the envelope shut until you've made the card. Sometimes handmade cards (or mine, anyway) tend to be a little on the thick side. Even the right-sized envelope can end up a little tight. If I'm worried about the thickness, I'll actually glue the envelope together around the card, so I know for sure it fits. (Just don't glue the card to the envelope - trust me on that one, it isn't pretty.)

I just cleaned out a drawer to reorganize my stuff and saw how many envelopes I have. My family knows I make my own cards so when they have a blank envelope they give them to me so I have tons. But I think I will have to look into the templates. I always make sure the card I have in mind will fit in an evelope before I even start to make one. A template would be nice to have for different size cards.

I have a recipe for you all. I have used this for years.

Messure your card
lets say the card is ... 1 1/2 inches wide and 2 inches tall

take your longest messurement = 2"
take half the other messurement (1 1/2) = 3/4 inch
add extra 1/4 inch
add all three = 3 inches
cut a 3 inch square

turn square so that is now a diamond
place card ontop. fold bottom triange up...then two sides in, and then top down.

I usually use 12 x 12 patterned paper that I buy in the bundle. So the inside of the envolope is decorated.
