Laminate Chips

What exactly are these used for?? (In scrapbooks, that is!)

I plan on using mine as a tag. I ended up finding them at Home Depot in the kitchen section (countertop area). My husband claims that all of us scrapbookers running to Home Depot and "stealing" paint swatches and laminate chips is going to cause them to start charging for samples!

I seen this post and took a look. I went to Home Depot and I was in scrapbook heaven. My question is how many do you take? When does it turn in being a pig?

Im glad to see Im not the only one to steal those swatches for scrapbooking!!lol I also used them for a table I made...I painted the top white and layed the swatches in a checkerboard pattern and sealed it...noone even knows it they were swatches..It came out great!!

I find that if you truly look interested in what your taking, no one really cares! Fortunately, my Home Depot and Lowes are very close and right across the street from each other so I can swap off my swiping!!

Anyone have a lo posted with the laminate chips?

I don't mean to sound like a prude, but I did not feel right about going to Home Depot, Lowes or any other place and taking paint samples or laminate squares without asking permission. Today, I went to Home Depot and talked with the paint department manager about buying some of the paint chips. He was puzzled as to why I wanted them, but after I explained, he said to take all I wanted (within reason) without charge because they don't cost the store anything, but he said they DO cost the paint companies something because the paint companies supply the samples without charge. He also said that he really appreciated me asking rather than just taking samples without him knowing it. I had already decided that if he would not sell me the paint chips or give them to me, I would not take them. I could not find the manager of the countertop area to ask about the laminate chips, but will talk with him before I take any. I plan to do the same thing at Lowes. I really can not imagine the embarassment it would be to have a store employee stop me and accuse me of stealing something. I know the samples are free, but they are free for people who plan to buy paint, not to scrapbook. I think it is okay if you have permission to do this, but I don't think it is okay to take dozens and dozens of samples, even with permission. Just my opinion.

I stopped by Lowes after church today and talked with the paint manager there. He said I was welcome to free paint samples (within reason) anytime, so I took about 50. You may wish to ask the paint manager of a store before you take them just to be sure it is okay.

Are these samples photo safe are they ok to use in scrapbooks... My friend is a manager at Menards and said I was welcome to they but I didn't know if they were safe or not. Anyone know or to you just keep them off the photos? Thanks. Angie

Does anyone have a layout posted using these laminate or paint chips? I just can't visualize using them in a layout.

I was wondering if the paint samples are photo safe, too. I would think the paint would be OK - but what about the paper it's on?

They are NOT photosafe, but I use them for making cards (I make LOTS of cards) and doing designs on bags, invitations, gift packages, etc. You may want to spray them with Archival Mist, but the mist is so expensive that it probably would be cheaper to buy AF/LF paper for SB layouts. I do not use this stuff for my SB pages. The paint samples come in all sizes. Some of the paint samples at Lowes are 4x6" of one color and are great for backgrounds on cards, as well as punching designs for cards. Some of the 3-color paint samples are 2-1/4" x 2" and are great for matting letters or punching letters. One thing I like about the 3-color paint samples is that the colors are "family" coordinated and when designing cards, it is nice to have colors that complement each other.

I got some laminate chips in a swap. I played with them last weekend and I am gonna post my results in the gallery so you can see what I came up with.

I didn't see anyone answer the question of if the laminate chips were safe. Also, does anyone have a layout that have used them?
