hair dryer for heat embossing?

Hello everyone!My name is Erica and I am new around here! Seems to be a great place for advice!

My first question is, can I use a hair dryer for heat embossing instead of a regular heat gun? Anyone tried it?

A hair dryer won't get hot enough and tends to blow the powder off your project. Use a coupon somewhere and get a heat gun if you plan to do embossing. It's worth it for the great look.

the embossing guns are relatively cheap. The hair dryer won't work --- believe me. Been there done that!

If you aren't signed up already, sign up for emails from your local craft stores. They'll send you coupons, usually weekly. Then use one to get the heat gun. I only dry emboss, but I use my heat gun for drying liquid applique. It's totally worth the money, and it's not expensive once you use a coupon.

heat guns are relatively cheap and definitely worth the money ... hair dryers just can't get hot enough, and as already stated, just blow the powder where it's not supposed to be

I used a 50% coupon at m's. I think it was 12.00- heats up fast and is terrific for inking and drying canvas and embossing (my new favorite!).

Yes, a heat gun is a great investment. The Martha Stewart one I found here is just one type available. M's carries them and with a coupon they are pretty reasonable

A hair dryer WILL work if it has enough watts, and if you heat the paper from the underside instead of on top...but the heat gun is definitely the way to go.

Ah beat me to it, I second what Lori said. Mine has heat controls and speed, it can work until you get a heat gun!

I really like the Ranger one. Its super quiet and I can still watch TV/listen to music while using it.

Before I got a heat gun I stuck my paper in the toaster, lol. It did work but it was ridiculous.

I have a darice one from j's. I use it for peeling labels off stuff and for shrinking shrinky dinks to. FIL is forever borrowing it for heating shrink stuff and tubing too. I think I might get him one of his own

Maybe I will try the hair dryer for now, but the real gun is definitely on my short list now!
I've been scrapping for about 10 years but I'm just now getting into all the cool techniques. And I'm working on my wedding album right now so I feel like I really have to step up my game!
