Smoke when embossing?

Does anyone else have the problem of smoke when embossing?!?
Am I doing it wrong? If I'm far away it doesn't work, and when I get closer, smoke rises...

Holy Smokes! I've never seen that! I hold my heat gun about 1" away from the project, maybe a little more and it seems to do fine, what embossing powder are you using? Anybody else had that problem?

I'm using that Ultra thick embossing powder.
I'm a little freaked out to use it again...don't want to burn the place down!

Are you holding the gun still or moving it around?

I've never used UTEE, though.

Never had this happen, although I've never used UTEE.

Sounds like maybe you're doing something wrong.

I've never had it smoke What products are you using? Maybe something got into your powder that is making it do that??

I've had a little bit of smoke, not much. Probably the gun and not the product, at least I think it is my gun.

Never had any smoke, but haven't used that brand either. Can you check, maybe e-mail the company and ask if anyone has ever reported that? Maybe with that brand it is common. I'd think as long as you aren't holding it in one place too long and aren't holding it too close, then you are probably doing it right.

You know...I was burning the edges of paper this afternoon and I had smoke...which was the burning, so maybe it is b/c you are holding it too close and in the same spot for too long. Try burning a piece of paper with your heat gun and see if you get the same result, then you will know if that is what it was.

I've used that kind before and have never had a problem with it. Maybe you had the heat gun too close or too long on the paper? Thats the only thing I can think of.ALso, I've turned paper brown before from holding the heat gun on a same spot for too long.

It might be the UTEE. Is it really smoke or does it just look like some sort of vapor or stuff rising off the UTEE? I have pearl UTEE and I have noticed that before when using it.
