Do you store acrylic stamps in CD cases?

I remove my acrylic stamps from their original packaging and organize them according to theme in plastic CD cases.

I recently discovered that one set of stamps has begun to "melt" in the CD case. It must be a chemical reaction, because they are stored in a cool, dark closet.

I looked at a few other sets and they are fine.

Has anyone else had this experience? Do any of you science types know why this would happen?

I store my stamps on plastic sheets in accordion folders, but I did notice that one of my older stamps had gone remarkably soft (but there was no deterioration of the image quality).
According to the internets the stamps aren't really designed to last, so maybe they deteriorate naturally after a while?

Thanks, abgel1dot0 for the excellent article comparing rubber vs acrylic stamps. Interestingly, when the author talked about her acrylic stamps deteriorating, she said they got hard and brittle. My deteriorating stamps, on the other hand, got soft and mushy.

Puddin Head, that's the experience that I had with my one and only 'deteriorated' acrylic stamp too. It became strangely soft.
I think that maybe the stamps age differently depending on what quality material they're made of.

This thread interested me. I am getting back into paper crafting after several years. I have a TON of acrylic and clear stamps that I store in a CD case. I have not opened them yet to inspect them, so it will be interesting to see how they held up these last several years.

Awesome article to read. I didn't know that Stazon ink can ruin your clear stamps over time if not clean. Good thing I clean both my rubber and clear stamps after using them. I use Hero Arts Ultra Clean it a cleaner you can use on both rubber and clear stamps. It will clean off most inks. Even some inks that been caked on the stamps over time. It is working good for me over time. No problem with the cleaner so far.
