Fiskar's Texture Plates?

Topic Closed
  • Married05
I really want to start dry embossing, but really can't afford something like the Cuttlebug (I already have a Cricut anyway). Has anyone used Fiskar's texture plates? I saw them at Target tonight - 12 bucks for a pack of I think 6. Thanks!
  • Ms Jackie
I have them. They are good except you will need the texture tool. It has little balls on the ends that you roll in circles to get the texture on the paper.

However, they don't give you the deep look that a Cuttlebug does, but you can use the Fiskars plates in a Cuttlebug.

Do you think it's worth it to get a Cuttlebug just for embossing? I've also heard that some people just buy the cuttlebug dies and then use a rolling pin...

I don't know about the Cuttlebug because I don't have one. However, I did have the Fiskars texture plates and got rid of them all. I did not like them. The image you get is not clear or deeply set in the paper, IMO.

I tried using the rolling pin, because I had a paper that was larger than the Cuttlebug plate, and it was ok. Lucky for me I was just doing the dotted plate. I don't just use my Cuttlebug for embossing, put also for small die cuts. I don't always want to lug my Sizzix out. It's so..... heavy

    hmmm... rolling pin. interesting.
  • Ms Jackie
the rolling pin works, but it's a real pain if you have a large piece you are trying to emboss. You have to like it up to get it correct.

I have some. I have the texture tool, but I actually prefer a regular stylus. I think it brings the design out more.

I love my Fiskar Texture Plates, if u rub wax paper over your paper b4 rubbing the tool across the paper for the image, it raises so much better, I love them...I have 12 of them..

I love my plates also. I go over them with the little texture tool then I outline with my stylus.

I like the plates too, but I hate using the tool. I actually use mine in my cuttlebug. I pretty much only use the cuttlebug for embossing. I do have a few dies, but not too many.

I have a whole bunch of them but use them in my big kick (similar to the cuttlebug) with a rubber plumbers mat (found in the faucet repair section of home depot). I think they work well, I wouldn't pay $12 for 6 tho! I got them for under $1 each at Tuesday Morning a few weeks ago.

I just got them at Tuesday Morning too. Four plates for $1.99.

I haven't used them yet--and don't have a diecutting machine, so I plan to use the rolling pin - plumber's gasket method or the stylus.

Here's a previous post about them:

I've never tried them. I have used stencils and my light box to add texture to paper. Mostly on cards.

People... YOU ARE NOT SUPPORTING MY SPEND-THRIFT PROMISE! I swore I would not go buying stuff until at least November, but alas I am looking up Tuesday Morning now ***sighs***

Hi ladies... I have a cuttlebug and several of the Fiskars plates. How-oh-how do I use them in there? What is the combination of plate thickness to make it work?
  • Pearlygadget
I am going to get me some of those texture plates and the tool because there are a few textures that will work great for Mark's Linex scrapbook that i am making for the shop.... but hehhehe the shop is payong for them....

You actually need to have the rubber mat. You can buy a piece at home depot or lowes it is called plumbers mat or something. Or I bought the sizzix big impressions starter kit and it came with it. It also comes with several other texture plates so if you are gonna use them its pretty good. I used a coupon on mine, I think regular it was 18. (This week is columbus days sales and there are 50% off Coupons at Js.)

You would then use the plates, rubber mat, and cutting mats.

    Hope this helps!

I have about 12 Fiskars texture plates and they were getting dusty until I purchased a Cuttlebug.

The "sandwich" is plate "A", Fiskars texture plate, cardstock (right side towards texture plate), rubber plate (made from Plumber's rubber gasket), plate "C". It does far better embossing. And don't worry. It's hard to roll it through, but it won't break the machine.

With the Cuttlebug I can use all kinds of different dies in it as well, so I'm so glad I'm not limited to just the cuttlebug dies.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm just going to wait for a good sale to buy a Cuttlebug instead of the texture plates.

I use the texture plates in my cuttlebug as well. I use fun foam cut down to size instead of plumbers gasket and it works really well.
