Linked carts question

Can linked carts not be used at all on a different gypsy or just not linked to another gypsy? I have only 1 cart I bought on ebay used that was linked

And how much were gypsys when they first came out? I just bought a factory refurb for a really good price from a trusted seller on ebay. Supposed to be here today!

It has been so long since I used my gypsy, but I don't think there's a way to use a cart on the gypsy without linking it- there's nowhere to insert a cart on the gypsy other than the plug in cord that's used to link.
Am I over thinking this?!!!
I think I paid $150. For my G.

I didn't know if having the cart in the cricut and hooking the gypsy to the cricut would work or not.

Was really hoping to not have to link carts at all but maybe that's unavoidable?

So I tried my last post and it seems that t only way to use your only way to use your cartridges with your gypsy is to link them.

Even with a new cartridge that is not linked and currently in the cricut still has to be linked before being able to be used.

Ended up having to install cricut sync, and update the cricut and the gypsy and broke down and linked all my carts. Really didn't want to have to install anything on my old computer and have read so many update horror storys so I was quite nervous about updating.

And that one cart I bought off ebay that the lady said was linked was not linked cause it linked to my gypsy just fine. Found that out right after I purchased another copy of the cart and was gonna resell the first linked one. I thought i'd just try linking it so I could see what it says about a linked cart and such.

Oh well at least neither copy was more than $10. lol
