Where are all the 12x12 frames?

So-I appluad all of you that can do entire albums as gifts, but I have only been able to give 12X12 LOs as gifts, therefore, I like to frame them...you know make it really nice. But I can't find nice/cute/interesting 12x12 frames anywhere!!! Michaels/JoAnns has the most basic and boring black 12x12 frame....blah. And if I want to mount and frame my LO at Hobby Lobby or Michaels/Joannes, it could run me (the least with a 50% discount) $55!! Um, What??? Or, if I want to put together my own frame using materials from D i c k Blick, I can plan on spending close to $40, and spending time cutting the plexi-glass, glueing the frame, etc. etc. What's a girl to do? PS D i c k Blick does have two 12x12 frames, one a natural wood color and one black...but again so basic!

i just get the basic ones at acmoores and if i want them to stand out more , i'll stain them or distress them or something. that's about all i have around here that's affordable- thanks to the weekly Coupons !

I have bought a lot of mine from HL...they are black and cost $6.99, but most of the time, they are half off. (My) Wal Mart has some too...

Archivers carries them and I think they are wood ones too

Could you buy the plain black ones and alter them, or would you prefer not to do that? Altering scares me since I've never done it before. I'm giving it a shot on some notebooks this year, though.

I couldn't find a 12x12 frame anywhere near me so I decided why not change the size who says each LO has to be 12x12? I bought a 12x8 frame and made a LO just for it- It actually turned out great! anyhow I think it was 5.00 for the frame- just gotta think outside the 12x12 box!

I saw some at Wal Mart...really nice....looked like cherry wood with a raised dot border in gold...looked kind of "fancy". I think it was about $7. Have you ever thought of looking at like Big Lots of places that sell framed prints. I had a 12x12 framed print from Big Lots and I just took the backing off, took the print out, put my LO in and there it is!! HTH

Why not get a plain one and alter it to match the LO. I am doing some 12" clocks as gifts and I am having the same problem, I am going to spend close to $60 just on clocks. :-/

We dont have any of the big stores here, but my LSS has some nice 12x12 frames I was looking at the other day and they are not cheap. What I wouldnt give to have an ACM coupon.....

PS Be careful not to put important elements too close to the edges because the frame does cover the edges a bit.

So funny! I just bought a frame last week or so. It's an oak one for $7 from Walmart. It looks pretty nice!

I got white wooden ones at Michael's for $12 that's after there 50% off sale.

why don't you just make your own? It's not that hard, we already know you're a handy woman (we scrappers all are!)

all you need are supplies and time:

wood or MDF:
2 times: 14" long, 1" wide and as flat as possible( this goes for all wood, unless you want a really thick frame)
2 times: 12" long, 1" wide
2 times: 14" long, 0.5" wide
2 times: 12" long, 0.5" wide
(or you can use all 14" wide pieces but then you have to saw a 45° angle of all sides to make them match to a square)
a sheet of glass measuring 13*13"
something 13*13" to put in the back
and a couple of those hinges that you usually find on the back of picture frames (not sure how they are called in english)

You glue all the 1" wide pieces to a square, and then you do the same with the 1/2" wide pieces. After you got the 2 squares, glue them together (the 1/2" on the backside) Lay in your glass, then put in your LO and put something behind your LO that is about as thick as the space you still have left (the thinner the wood, the less space you'll have - chipboard should work fine if you don't have that much space left. If you have lots of space you might want to look out for another piece of wood) attach the hinges and close the whole thing up

ta-dahhhh! a ready to dress up frame (that's why I prefer MDF, it's so easy to dress up), for FAR less money than any frame you can ever buy, AND you made itfrom scratch!

Oh, I forgot to mention: the "inside" of the frame is actually 13*13" (altough only 12*12 is showing) so you might want to lightly tape the back of the LO on to the backside material, or attach a 1" strip along the bottom of the LO.

Can you tell me where you got the paisleys? I'm always looking for flourishy/paisley/swirley rubons, but can never find anything really big or bold, just tiny ones.

I've seen 12x12 shadow box type frames at different dollar stores...i'm actaully hoping to be able to still find one b/c I'd like to make one for my BFF. Hope this helps..ttyl

This is a really good idea. I saw some framed layouts in the store "Things Remembered" last night that started at $35.00! I think I'll make my own, thank you very much! LOL
