Can I use Crayola Colored Pencils?!

I bought some Crayola Colored Pencils for my son to play with and was wondering if I could use them on my layouts and/or cards. I'd probably mostly use them for coloring in stamps or something. I have no idea if they are acid free... Anyone have any ideas on this? If I can't use them, what is the best alternative?

I have taken my son's crayola pencil when he graduated from high school for some reason our school required these pencils they probally had a contract with crayola. Mine says non toxic so I'm thinking their safe theirs a number to call maybe its worth asking the company.

Interesting fact back a few years ago A man retired from crayola after working for them forever his job was to make sure in the 64 pack of crayons that their was one of each color on the day he retired he annouce that he was colored blind.go figure they never had any complaints of the crayons being messed up.
My sis hubby is color blind and can't pick out a tie for work.

I have not used them myself but I have seen cards in the gallery that say they used them to color stamps.

I searched on Crayola's website (I was curious to see if "non-toxic" and "acid-free" were related in any way) and this is what it said:

The terms acid free and nontoxic are not the same. While all CRAYOLA products are nontoxic, only some Crayola products are acid free. The term acid free is an important feature to people who do scrap booking as a hobby to ensure longevity of their work.

The products that are acid free include Crayola Acrylic Paint, Glitter Glue, Gel Pens, Metallic FX Markers, Washable Glue Sticks, Washable Squeezables 3-D Paint, and the Total Tools Glue Roller.

Most other Crayola products have a mid-range pH level, however, we are unable to guarantee they are acid free. In addition, the color pigments used in our products may fade over time when exposed to natural and artificial light.

If you want a nicer finish invest in some Prismacolor colored pencils. They are pricey, but definately worth the investment. One my prized art supplies I've bought myself is my 120 count PC pencils. I got them on sale by mistake of the store for $30 as opposed to $130 Although I need to reorganize them and find which colors have gone missing after 5 years! lol

Are the Prismacolor Premier pencils acid-free? I will go do some research.

Ha... I never thought to actually look on their website. That would have been helpful. Thanks for the advice! I think I will not be using them on any of my layouts, cards maybe, but definitely not layouts.

Prismas are the best. I'm spoiled and won't use anything else. I teach art, so I've tried many brands, I highly recommend Prisma.

I also am an art teacher. Prismacolors are very nice. Although I don't use them at school. My elementary kids already eat up the crayola ones..haha! I think if they had the soft lead they'd constantly be sharpening...even more than now! hahaha

I would venture to say they are acid free as they are professional pencils, but you never know!

General's Chalk Pencils are acid free. These ones are great - since they are chalk you can smudge them when needed. Of course, you end up colors all over your fingers, but it's worth it.

nope- teachers just know that crayolas don't smear, aren't waxy (transfer to EVERYTHING) and sharpen well. I don't care what kinds my students have- they usually donate any leftovers at the end of the year to my class bucket for everyone to use.

I order crayolas for my math/science classroom each year. For some reason all I have left right now are shades of brown and green. All the other colors have somehow disappeared over the course of the school year. Oh yea, I also have TONS of white ones- any ideas for using those up? I'm hoping some of my kids will toss their pencils into my bin for next year and I'll get some better colors into the mix. If not, no worries- I ordered the 240 pack (12 colors x 20 of each) for next year.

I also love Kooh-i-noor pencils. I've only been able to find the 24pack at Michaels but they are so smooth and blend really nice. These are woodless pencils, so the entire pencil is colour. I doubt that they are acid-free but they are artist quality. I find them just as nice (if not more) as prisma and a whole lot cheaper. Only drawback is the very limited colour range. I use them for all my stamp colouring with gamsol.

I use them all the time. I also use markers.

If they're not acid free you may not want to use them for your scrapbooks. But card making wouldn't be a problem.
