Tomorrow, we're going hiking for the American Cancer Society Climb to Conquer Cancer event. I think I've almost reached my goal for fundraising. Almost there....

Just ate dinner. Time for hubby to drag me out to the tanning place.

I'm finishing dinner...holding on dessert for Tinkerbrat...she's supposed to be here soon.

I am soooo sleepy. I know time in the tannign bed is just going to make me sleepier. dh is spazzing now, far as he's concerned we might as already be on our way.

Hi all.... just checking in from the boys Chrysalis retreat. It's pretty quiet now, I thought I would go home and take a nap, it just didn't happen.

Not much, just checking in on what you ladies have been up to. I think I'm going to go to sleep for a while. I've been running a fever all week and haven't a clue why. So I think some more rest is in order.

Well I have not been on too often over the last few days and I have no chance of getting caught up, so giving an update on what I have been up to! Just been hanging out with DH before he leaves for Scotland on Monday. But the big news is that we adopted a dog last night! We had been getting ready all week for him and we are so excited! We were not supposed to get him until Saturday but he was getting attacked by another dog that he was living with so the day got moved up. We had gone shopping Wed night but I was planning on cleaning up the apartment for him last night but did not have time. So I cleaned up tonight when he was looking at me like "what in the world is she doing?" He is just the sweetest little thing, loves to cuddle with us, but we are having a hard time getting him used to the crate because we are going to crate train him at night and when we are at work. I feel that this is the safest place for him and he is not 100% house broken or not used to being in his new home.
So we are going to work with him this weekend to try and get him used to the crate and let him know that it's not a punishment but just going to be his home. Its hard because he is not used to it and he barks and barks and crys alot!

He is a Doxie and he's so small! I will post pics before the weekend is up, he is not too keen on posing for pics right now, too interested in exploring his new home!
Right now we are working on the crate, I have been putting little treats in it and he will crawl in to get it, I praise him so hopefully he'll learn the positive behavior for the crate!

I know I rant about DH when I get frustrated with him, so it's only fair that I brag on him when things go very, very, right.

Ethan has a cold (again). Running a fever (again) (tho' not as bad as two weeks ago). I was up rocking and dealing with him from basically 12:20 until 3:00 last night. And when I *did* finally put him back in bed, he was awake, but quiet, so I just left him and prayed he'd go to sleep on his own in spite of the snifflies.

The kid woke up around 9:00. I got up with him, and it was 1/2 hour or so before I decided he was really, truly awake, and had had a bottle, and had a diaper changed, and clothes on, and we were headed downstairs. In that time, DH had:

Made the bed
Put some cinnamon rolls in the oven to bake
Gotten my coffeemaker primed so all he had to do was push "start" and my coffee would be brewing
Washed the handful of dishes that was sitting on the kitchen counter, including dirty bottles

He played with the baby so much this morning while I vegged on the couch nearby in case I was needed.

I even got to watch "Spider-Man 3" which we'd gotten from the library, while he played with the baby and watched after him. (DH had taken the movie to work and watched it on his computer over his lunch breaks this week, so he'd already seen it, and it needed to go back to the library today.) I did have to take a break about 1.5 hours into it to put the baby back down for a nap, but then I got to watch the rest of the movie in complete peace & quiet.

They talk about "love languages." Mine is a combination of words and gifts - I will tell a person I love them over and over and over, or buy them gifts - large or small - to make them happen. His love language is doing things for the people he loves, and this morning I was feeling very, very loved.

I am home, got the driveway shoveled and car back in it, cleaned my room, put fresh sheets on the bed, started a load of laundry, showered and put fresh jammies on! I am all cozy, clean, and ready to sb and chat!

Megan, my vet and I were discussing this today. She said to have the crate in an area whre you are going to be, and have him in it even when you are home with him. She said to even put his food and water in the crate when you are home so he sees it as a safe place, not a punishment.
We found Chief acts much differently in the crate when we are home, than when he knows we are leaving.

Both of our dogs are crate trained. Our Sheltie has a fit if we don't lock her in there when we leave (it happened by accident that her gate didn't get closed properly and when we got home she was crying and shaking at the door) and our retriever goes into the crate and lays down throughout the day. They definitely feel safe in there. (And stick in there...our retriever took forever to get used to the crate, but he loves it now.)
