the bird let me get within 8 to 10 feet of it and kept posing for me before it walked a little further away. It was crazy how close I got! A game warden/caretaker came up behind us and said it was very unusual for the bird to stay and its rare to see one with their beak open. they were concerned it was ill or injured. The warden walked real close and the bird took off and flew across the water just fine. they concluded it must have gotten a bad fish and was just feeling a bit under the weather because of it. Whatever the reason, the bird made a great subject.
