We stopped at several areas where there were ruins still standing but I don't remember which structures were designated for which purpose. I remember that one place we saw was Temple del Sol. The temple in honor of the Sun God. This is where the sacrifices of the girls took place. Gold, silver, animal and other sacrifices were also made at the Temple del Sol. I just don't know which of the photos below are Temple del Sol.

It was very odd to see bones strewn about on the ground - especially after being told that they were mostly human bones. Not only was this a place of human sacrifice, it was also a burial ground.

This was such an interesting place to visit but the history of the sacrifices and the presence of human bones just laying on the ground was a little unsettling and a bit chilling. It is so hard to imagine a culture like the Incas actually existed here and that these practices which are so unthinkable to us were their every day way of life.
