Next we walked a short distance to St. George's Cathedral which is also called the People's Cathedral. After seeing and hearing Archbishop Desmond Tutu a few days earlier on the cruise ship I wanted to see the church where he is active – his “home” church.

It was a classic stone church – absolutely charming. The inside had several amazing stained glass windows but the pulpit area was very simple. I was surprised that the seats were all folding wooden chairs – not what I expected. The church was the opposite of all the European cathedrals we have visited, many of which are more like museums – this one was warm and inviting.
