The biggest tourist attraction in Walvis Bay is Dune 7 – a huge sand dune in the desert about 5 miles outside the port town. Bill and Rob started climbing the dune but found it very difficult to walk up in the sand. For every foot they moved upward they moved a half-foot back down. Even though they were wearing shoes, once they got about 1/3 of the way up it was so steep they had to crawl the rest of the way and the sand was burning their hands. Finally they got tired of the challenge and Rob rolled down the hill and Bill ran down the hill.
