Thursday, July 24th, 2014 – Today we were back in one of my favorite countries. We were back in England - today's port was Fowey.
I was so disappointed to see the sky so gray this morning. By the time we got on the tender the drizzle was turning into a light rain. It cleared up enough that we could sit in the square by the dock where free internet was offered and check email and Facebook.
From the deck of our ship this morning I noticed a big castle and wanted to investigate that while we were here. Even though it looked like an old castle, it was a family home. You could see it from all over the city but we were able to get pretty close to it for pictures. I had to know more about it so here is what I learned: The date the house (called Place) was built is unknown. It became the family home of the Treffry family in 1280 on the occasion of the marriage of Thomas Treffry to Elizabeth Boniface who was living at Place at the time.
Since Place is still a family residence, the mansion is not open to the public.
