I purchased this chrome precision base plate because I bought some Crafters Companion detailed dies that Sara recommended only buying if you had a Gemini. I really wanted to be able to use their beautiful dies, but didn't need another gadget when I already have Sizzix machines and all the sandwich supplies. I just tested this base plate with the Crafters Companion detailed die, craft cardstock, and a Vagabond2. I put it through forward and backward; the details cut perfectly! Still needed to poke out some of the detailed work, but again, cut perfectly through the paper. I don't know what the difference is between this one and the original precision base plate, as I never had one. Thank you Sizzix for making this chrome precision base plate available, I can now use any detailed dies with my Sizzix machines!
Always appreciate the expedient shipping too!
I bought this Chrome precision plate out of curiosity. I already had the sizzix precision cutting pad that I bought through Stampin' Up! in 2015.
I never understood why the precision base plate said NOT to use framelit dies (outline type of dies with no inner intricacies), with the precision plate. I hadn't read the warning from SU or Sizzix that they would warp before using my plate. I tend to use stitched rectangles dies and Spellbinders Card Creators sets a lot and not one of them warped.
I have 2 problem children that even the older precision plate had problems with. Spellbinders Resplendent Rectangles and Cottagecutz Garden Fence and Gate dies. I tried everything even with the plate, waxed paper, shims, etc and not all of the tiny cuts would go through with 1 pass, it would take up to 4 or 5 and I still had to be carefull popping out the chads. Of course, 4 to 5 times is better than not at all with the regular base plate and cutting pads.
But then I bought the Chrome Precision Base Plate.
First thing I tested it on was the 2nd inside die of the Resplendent Rectangles die set. ONE PASS and all of the chads fell out of the spaces! Just ONE!. Then I tried the Cottagecutz set.
ONE pass and it was cut through.
That is all the news you need to get one of these pads if you have problem children dies too!!
I absolutely love my new chrome precision base plate. Not only does is look fabulous but, there are no little slivers of paper stuck on it like with the original one. It stays shiny and new. Oh by the way, it cuts fabulously as well. Great addition to my arsenal.
I had seen this on a tutorial by Tim Holtz, and it is everything he promised. It makes such a clean cut on fine detail dies. There are a few I always wanted to use, but they were always clogged with little bits that didn't cut. Now I have much better results with the chrome plate. It doesn't get cuts in it like other pads so it should last a long time. It is not recommended for the big kick plus, so I switch to my standard big kick. It puts a fair amount of pressure on your dies so I would be careful not to use open dies, just the ones with small details. But if you have some detail dies that make you frustrated, this may be the piece of equipment that will save them for you.
I had put aside my Big Shot because it was no longer cutting
easily. I decided to try the Precision Base plate and I really like it. For really thin dies, I still have to use a metal or other shim but that's okay--I'm back to using my Big Shot exclusively. The Base plate aids in cutting intricate dies, usually with one pass, sometimes two. And I like that it doesn't warp or scratch like the acrylic base plates.
Helps cut thinlits that are very intricate like butter. Not to be used with framelits. It’s a great product to cut out all the little teeny tiny pieces from the Dooley and the Halloween gate dies.
Wow! This is an awesome product.
I do not often review anything but this Chrome Base Plate is exceptional. I tried about a dozen dies from different vendors and got good cuts on all with only one pass through the machine.
Only problem was with the small embellishment for CottageCutz Tall Teapot. (You can Google this for a picture.) This is an old style die with release foam. The new style Small Teapot's embellishment without foam worked on first cut.
If you have very detailed die cuts then I would recommend getting this platform. It very easy getting those little detailed out of your die cuts and you don't have to run it through your big shot many times to make sure it cuts, you only need to run it through once. Less time and it works.
I own the previous version of this plate and am pleased to see the update. Using this Base Plate makes the projects go more quickly and eliminates the use of a second acrylic pad. Great Job, Guys!
