I love my oval, pierced dies! They add just the right amount of detail without detracting from your overall design. I had to get the pierced rectangles after seeing how good these die cuts look in person. They cut through two 90 lb layers of cardstock held together with adhesive sheets, so no worries there.

Can this set of ovals be used for shadow dies. For example, can a larger oval from this set be used underneath a smaller oval from this set so that it looks like a small shadow effect?

the size difference between each die is quite significant. I used two dies to nest on top of each other. The die I used as the shadow measures 2 3/4 at the width
Absolutely! Just cut the larger from whatever material you want the shadow layer to be (vellum, darker cardstock, etc) and cut the top layer from a lighter color cardstock to achieve the shadow effect you are looking for.
