If there is one item that all cardmakers, scrapbookers and crafters always need, it is adhesive. There are so many different types out there on the market - dry adhesives, wet adhesives, glossy, matte, permanent, temporary, vellum, tape, sticks, runners; the list just goes on. That is why it can be quite overwhelming when it comes to choosing one that will best suit your needs as well as your budget.
Over the years I have tried them all but the only one I ever use now is the permanent E-Z runner from 3L. I absolutely love these runners and use them on all of my projects; they really are a general all-purpose adhesive.
The "runner" is actually a red plastic application roller that contains 33 feet of double-sided white tabs. It has a clever design inside the case, with a large and a small wheel that act like cogs to wind the waste tape around, keeping everything inside nice and tidy.
The applicator is designed in such a way that it is very easy to hold and you can apply minimum pressure to get great results. It fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and you are able to tell which way to hold it by looking at the arrow on the front. There are two generous thumb-sized grips on either side of the applicator along with a grip on the top to place your index finger. This makes applying the adhesive comfortable and quick.
The adhesive itself is incredibly easy to apply. You simply place the applicator on the item you want to adhere, and drag the runner towards you. There is a great short video on Scrapbook.com which shows you how to do this. You can see from the photo that the adhesive not only can be applied in straight lines, but also in curves and circles with ease. You can get a really accurate application on small or large areas.
Not only is this little runner mess-free but it is fast and smooth to apply. The little white tabs mean you can see exactly where you are applying the adhesive and this means you can use it on just about anything. I personally use this adhesive on everything from paper to glass and ribbon. It really is my favorite product. The only downside to the white tabs is that you cannot use them on anything that is clear as it will show through quite obviously. For this type of job, however, I like to use the purple 3L E-Z runner which specifically is designed for vellum instead.
The tabs are approximately ½ inch wide in size and are both acid-free and archival-safe. In addition they are acrylic-based, lignin-free and PAT- (Photographic Activity Test) tested and approved. The actual adhesive lasts for a long time too. I have scrapbook pages from three years ago that I used this adhesive on and they are still stuck firm; the permanent tape is fantastically strong.
When you are finished with the runner, there is no hassle with refills. You just throw the whole runner away. The runners can be recycled and are reasonably priced, especially compared with other standard-refill-type runners. They offer excellent value for money. What's even better is that 3L guarantee the adhesives too. Sometimes with other runners, they jam or the adhesive gets stuck on the plastic. I have to say though, that in the three years I have been using the 3L runners this has never happened to me; they really are amazingly high-quality and I cannot recommend them enough.
