Every year, I like to chronicle my experience with what it's like having a brain aneurysm. And it's that time of year again!!! lol! The MRI machine isn't the one I used (don't let your husband use your camera... he left it on and the battery was dead when I got the appointment) so I used a stock photo, but the little circles on the left side are the insides of my brain!

Now for my soap box: What exactly is a brain aneurysm? A weakened, bulging spot in one of your arterial walls, filled with blood. 5% of the population has a brain aneurysm, and the percentage is higher if you're a female. The vast majority of people are unaware that they have one. 50% of patients that have an unknown aneurysm that ruptures, die within minutes. 50% of those that survive are left with severe, permanent brain damage. So, what do I want YOU to do with all this information? I don't want money or donations... I want awareness. Many moms in their thirties go to sleep and never wake up, their families not knowing what the cause was. Please, tell five people over the next week or so about brain aneurysms. Discuss that any sudden changes in vision, or what they call the infamous, "thunderclap headache" that they need to get to a hospital immediately. Talk about researching family ancestry to see if there is any history of brain aneurysms. If you have any reason to justify a CT scan or MRI to your insurance, have them check for an aneurysm. Thank you. This is a very silent, unknown about condition that surprisingly affects a lot of people.
