Sizzix - Accessory - Magnetic Platform

Love the Magnetic Platform! Sure wish they sold this in the package with the machine. Most crafters who are just starting don't know what they need. This is a must-have, I have the Big Shot and wanted to start cutting those beautiful thin lits with intricate designs right away! I couldn't understand why my items weren't cutting all the way and I was very discouraged. I didn't want to pick or use my craft knife to get my items out. The market is so flooded with items to purchase; and unless you research and read reviews, you won't know the platforms and cutting pads you really should use. I did my research, but that isn't to say everyone will do the research. I've read in many reviews some put their machines up. So glad I took the gamble to see how it would work and purchased mine!

Problem with user, not the platform

In spite of obvious graphics on the platform, this user forgot to put the bottom clear plate in place before cutting. DON'T DO THAT!!! Expensive mistake on my part. Otherwise, it is a really great accessory to have. What might have helped me is if there were an orange or red "Caution" sticker with a warning to be sure to put the bottom plate in place before cutting. I hope my experience helps someone else avoid this user error!!

      Magnetic Sizzix Platform

I have been using a lot of thinlets, framelets and other metal dies, this is worth every penny especially when its on sale.
I just put down my dies, it snaps into place and stays.
I don't have to struggle getting the tape on right or how it comes off.

There is also an extended platform as well but so far the standard size fits my needs....and budget. :0

      A must have

If you use wafer thin dies this platform allows for more precise cutting . You can lay your die anywhere on the card and it will stay put. Your big shot is not complete without this platform. Yes, you can stick to the bigger dies but you wont have the same flexibility and you will be greatly limiting yourself on your die choices.

      Great price. Love Scrapbook.com

    Product Questions & Answers

    • Can this magnetic platform be used with the Cuttlebug?   By: suebeebunny (19-May-14) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
      • The platform is about 1/4 inch too wide, and won't go through the Cuttlebug. By: Emily.Anderson (19-May-14) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

      • I've used this on my Cuttlebug but only with the thin spellbinders and with the dies that are small enough to fit in the Cuttlebug. Some of the spellbinder dies are too large to put on the platform. I use my Sizzix HotShot for those bigger dies. Check out the internet to see which die machines the Sizzix brand recommends to use with it's products. I would not use any of the thin dies on the green Cuttlebug machine. The Anna Griffin Cuttlebug is much better made in my opinion. I hope this helps! By: rosesylace (29-Sep-15) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. • Can the magnetic platform be used when embossing a die cut after it's been cut? Or do you have to use traditional sandwich plates for the embossing? Thanks!   By: NYorker (04-Aug-14) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
      • Yes you can use it for doing the embossing of a die cut. The only thing you can not do is the embossing folders because they are to thick to go through. By: bjcapen (06-Aug-14) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Is the magnetic platform better to have than the precision base plate? Why would I need both? Are they used together or separate? Thanks   By: whimsicalwhinery (07-Jan-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
      • I am not familiar with the precision base plate. I have the multi-purpose platform base and the magnetic platform base. I use the multi-purpose platform for thicker dies and for embossing folders. I use the magnetic platform for thinner dies and I love it. If I have very thin dies, I use a cardboard shim underneath the magnetic platform. This probably doesn't answer your questions, but I wanted to give you my insight. • I am new to Sizzix and was trying to get a little more thickness to cut a die I was having trouble cutting (Tim Holtz Festive Greenery) so I made the mistake of using the die on the magnetic platform which seemed a little thicker then just the extended platform. I pushed it through and it peeled off the top paper off of the magnets. Have i ruined it or can I stick something on the magnets and still use it? Help, help anyone?   By: Afountain (28-Nov-15) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
      • Do the magnets still work I think the paper is for information mostly i think and should actually be on the bottom side the magnet side should be face up. I would try again and see if it works still. I sometimes have used an extra sheet of paper or cardboard to add extra depth for a good cut if i didn't have a shim. • Using my magnetic platform with 2 cutting pads and a triplts die and paper, my cut design is coming out fine but my cutting pad now has fairly deep cuts in it from the dies. I don't have a 3rd cutting pad so what can I do? The instructions say that I may have to do up to 3 passes for it to cut, but mine is actually cutting too much because they are cutting into the plastic cutting pads.   By: herunsineedto (04-Sep-15) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I keep a number of cardboard shims (actually the backing from some embossing folders) on hand and have found that I can use them in place of the top plate when this happens. This way you can add just enough to cut. By: marilynmac (07-Sep-15) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
