Question about chipboard..

What is the best way to cut chipboard for albums, craft knife, scissors? I am not sure what to use. For example: I need chipboard to be cut 8"x8"

It depends on how thick your chipboard is. If it's thin, I just use my trimmer. If it's thick, then I use my craft knife, although my hand is a bit unsteady, which leaves me with a less-than-perfect look. I haven't tried cutting ultra-thick chipboard yet.

on ultra thick chipboard, I've used a small electric saw. It took some practice...but, I just went and spent $15-20 on a cheap little saw (have no idea what it's called....it has a thin long blade that goes up and down) and practiced...also use it on books to alter when I want them shaped.

Ilka, I don't think that I've ever purchased chipboard for cutting. I usually save the inserts that come in packaging. I've purchased thick chipboard pieces at the scrapbook stores, and have cut them with my craft knife. Most of those were embellishments, however, that I altered for my own use.

If you search for "chipboard album" here at the superstore, you find some products that might be what you are looking for. No cutting needed!

I use a bypass paper cutter. I have always had access to one at church, schools or the bookstore I work at.

I've cut the thinner chipboard with my trimmer, but it really dulls the blade, which is expensive and sometimes hard to find. So, for the thinner stuff, I will use a craft knife - xacto blades are cheap and easy to find.

For the really thick chipboard, I will use the guillitine (sp?) cutter at my office, or a box cutter / utility knife.

I can get the super thick chipboard - and all other sizes - at a local art supply store (the kind where "true" artists or art students shop). They have it in 2-4ft pieces. I got a giant piece for $4. It was a bugger to cut up into smaller pieces. It was too big to fit in the cutter at work, so I had to cut it in my driveway on with a box cutter. In the 100 degree heat.
