Heritage Albums

Has anyone ever done a Heritage Album? I've done a lot of genealogy research and would love to put together a scrapbook of all the pictures and documents that I've found for my parents. But then I get to thinking about how to organize it and am just stuck. I've thought about having a tree preceding several pages that highlight the family members in the pages to come and where they fit in the tree.

I just wondered if anyone has done an album like this and how you organized it.

I also have a monthly heritage challenge here that I would love you to join I had been sick & had surgery so I did not do last month or before..I took a break. I am back. the paople in the challenge are doiing it different ways. some do it by certtain family some do it other ways. I have been scrapping heritage photos for years. please join us in the thread here & I am going to start the new heritage challenge early. I hope you can joiin us. you can ask everyone there for their ideas too.

I will be interested in what responses you get. My mother is moving and just mailed me two huge boxes of old family photos.

That said, I looked at some old threads about heritage. The best piece of advice I found was to scan the photos and print them if you plant cut them.

When I think about the photos I have, I can group them together by the era they are from (Grandparents and parents from long long ago, my childhood, etc.) and also by side of the family. I don't have a lot of history to go with many of them, so I will mostly just be preserving the photos by getting them in a safe book. That is a bit different from what you want to do. I like your idea of a tree to introduce each section of photos/info.

hi Frau dear friend since you have heritage pics.. I have a monthly heritage challenge here. I am going to start it today for next month. I would be so happy if you joined us. I was very sick & had not been able to scrap since fall untill a couple months ago. I have been weaning off some pills. I am finally off. I ca smile again.

That would be so cool to get a box of pictures in the mail! Thanks for your suggestion to scan the pictures before cutting.

i use a mix.. I scan many. some I am using copies & some I am using real ones it depends on hat you are doing when you scan them..they loo like the original.

hey Carey & Frau I just sent you both links to my new heritage challenge here for aug/september we are open all month do not feel scared..lots of friendly peolpe on that challenge they all have such amazing pages l they all answer any questions about the heritage stuff just nice kind people too that are so helpful iiif you sign do not feel bad if you do not do it I have lots of ideas but you do what ever your heart desries. no pressure. I sent them in the private message thing let me know if you do not get them

I have done many heritage layouts. I have a book for my father's side and one for my mother's side. I have a book for my photos from when I was young and also started one for my parents that will end with their wedding and then I will do our family. Heritage is my favorite thing to scrapbook. I have some nice books I have collected with lots of ideas and I have all kinds of pages pinned in Pinterest. I don't get to do much scrapbooking in the summer months because we have a seasonal business that runs 7days a week from April through October. Would be happy to answer questions as I really don't know where to start as far as giving advice. Good luck!

I have done mainly heritage albums. Love the old photos. When mom died I got a huge suitcase full of photos and several albums done back in the 1940's. I got some that had pictures scotch taped and BANDAGE taped on the black pages. Let me tell you I used bottles and bottles of Undu. I even collect old pictures from garage sales and Tim Holtz and make fun albums to give to my friends when they say "You are lucky, I don't have any old pictures" I make up silly stories to journal to the old pictures and names too.

I have been scrapping for almost 20 years and lurking here for years. This is one topic I thought I could help with. Take my suggestion anyway you would like.

I did one HUGE heritage album a while back. I too used a tree but it was at the end of the book with my husband and me as the middle of the tree. I started the book with my ancestors, great grandparents first, to my paternal & maternal grandparents and then to my parents. I worked up to me where I did pages as a baby til my marriage . I then did my children and finished with my husbands family working in reverse. I scrapped the pictures I had of him as a child, and then worked forward to his parents and grandparents.
I also kept the pages simple and used black pages for background so it looked more like a "scrapbook". This way there was also some unity. Each group of generations had their own color scheme of embellishments on the black pages.
