Heat Embossing w/o bubbles.

Is there a trick to heat embossing w/o a bunch of bubbles? I want to do a project with many layers of clear embossing powder, so should I buy UTEE?

I'm not positive, but I *think* the bubbles come from heating too long and/or too close. I've had that problem before. I found that if you preheat your heat gun (just let it run for 10-30 sec before aiming at your paper) you don't have to heat the paper as long, which might help with the bubbles. It also helps keep your paper from curling.

If you want layers I would get the utee...works great for layering! I've never tried layering with regular embossing powder though.

I find using UTEE messy and my powder blows off when I aim. I like the regualar EP better.

Me too.

I did see on diy that when the lady embossed, she had the paper on foil so the heat is retained and the paper embosses quicker. The foil does seem to help speed the process along.

These are great tips! I'm going to try the foil and heating from underneath.

I also agree that I don't like UTEE as much as the regular embossing powder either.

Hmmm, I've never had a problem with the UTEE (I haven't used it frequently though). I do, however, always use a clipboard covered with foil to emboss on. The clipboard part is nice because then I don't burn my fingers either!

For lots of layering of embossing powder you need either UTEE or Amazing Glaze. The latter is my personal favorite, made by Judikins. It's more white then yellow like the UTEE, though UTEE is good for cracking and rubbing inks over it.

Use your gun also more level then on an angle for not blowing stuff off. And yes overheating gets the bubbles. It should just start to "change" in color and you keep moving your gun across your image.
