New cardmaker please help

My first attempt at cardmaking has not turned out well. I found that my cards will not lie flat, are rather twisted and mis-shaped after glueing paper and stickers on. I was wondering if Iam using the wrong kind of glue, or too much?
Please help, I am so disappointed and ready to give up!

    Hello!

Don't be discouraged, cardmaking is such a great craft! Do you have any pictures to show what happened?

My Guess is that you might have used too much glue. If you are matting two pieces of paper together, all you need is a little glue in the corners, and maybe a thin line right near the borders. You don't need any in the middle, just set the top piece down carefully and smooth it out with something flat like a ruler or a bone folder. If you are using white glue, try to find an applicator with a fine tip. Also, you can try different products to stick your products together, I find double sided tape to be very useful for sticking paper together (I cut mine in half lengthwise when I use it to stick papers, I really just don't need the whole thing). My favorite glue is below, it's not runny and holds fast, so you only need minimal amounts, and is great for embellishments. Glue runners also work well. (I have all of them, plus white glue and Glue Dots ...experiment to see what you like!) Lastly, make sure you are using nice heavy cardstock as your card base so it doesn't warp.

What she said! Dry adhesives like the tape adhesives definitely won't warp the paper. For a liquid glue, I like the Tombow multi...you just need a touch in each corner and maybe a dab in the middle, if it's a large piece of cardstock or embellishment.

If you have a ton of layers of cardstock and paper, you can also punch or cut shapes out of the layers in between to help eliminate weight and bulk.

    Please don't give up!

Hi, are you using a "wet glue", that's probably why.

You can try the "Elmer's glue stick", i got it from Costco for a very cheap price. If not, i believe any craft store like Michaels will have it.

For smaller item on my cards, i always use "glue dot", you can get from Michaels too.

    Good luck!

Make sure you have a bone folder also; this will make your card fold really crisp and your card will stay closed.

Thanks, you all are so wonderful, I suspect it was the amount of Glue-which was wet- I was using.
Iam so not knowing what a bone folder is, but I will get one asap! Seriously I have always had this obsession with glue, so afraid things will fall off I guess. Will let you know how things turn out next time around! Thanks again soooo much for your suggestions.

Hello I understand where you are coming from only my issue was when I started stamping and card making I too had warpage. The issue for me was I was trying to watercolor the stamps cause I had no markers or ink pads except for the basic black. It is amazing what a few tools can do to help create a clean crisp final product.

When using ribbons and fibers I even find that rubber cement is good. It can help adhere like the wet glue with out the warping. It is cheep and can be rubbed off if it gets somewhere visible by using an inexpensive adhesive remover. Until you want to commit to more expensive adhesives or the craft itself this is a great way to dabble with the addiction that can come from card making.
