Ribbon Adhesive...

I'm considering making my own invitations for my upcoming wedding, and I am wondering what you believe is the best way to make ribbon stick! I usually just use double sided squares, half size. However, I made a rough draft version, and this doesn't seem to be hold up very well. I'd like my invitations to be sturdy - but I have to make 125, so nothing too expensive...

What type of ribbon are you using. I use Glue Dots if it's not too thin.

I use zip dry glue, I love it for ribbon and it dries really quick...I actually love this glue for all kinds of stuff and a little goes a long way!

I prefer to use the xyron Create-a-Sticker. I think it's the 150 model. It's great for ribbon because you just slide it through and it puts the adhesive right on. You should be able to find them at your local Michaels, Joann's, or Hobby Lobby. They're not too expensive and you can buy the refill cartridges. Hope this helps!

I use zips. They sell them here in the store. You could also use spray adhesive. If you use a xyron try to do several strips at a time or else it is going to cost you in refills. You may need someone to help for a minute.

Another xryon user here..it is the Best! for ribbon.

Oh, rub really hard on the ribbon before you pull it off the backing sheet though to pick up all the sticky.

Hmmm, I don't have a xyron . One of those things I keep thinking about adding to my collection!! :-)

I use Glue Dots , the mini ones - they are usually nice and thin.

I'm going to go look into the "zips" or "zip dry glue mentioned here. Love to learn about new stuff.

Hmmm....you girls have me thinking! I made notebooks for Christmas presents. I attached the ribbon with the Glue Dots Glue Lines . Loved it, but I am always looking for new ideas. I might have to try my xyron next time!

Mandy, I'd consider getting Glue Dots (you can get them on sale at AC Moore for 2/$5 - the sale happens pretty frequently) or, like the others said, try the xyron . The little xyron X (150, I think) retails for $10. It comes with one cartridge and the others often go on sale at AC for 40% off. Then you will also have your X for other uses after you make the invites.

Personally, spray adhesive and I don't get along too well. I end up getting it everywhere.

I use the Glue Dots or my xyron X. Both work well. I know Making Memories has a ribbon adhesive. I don't how good it is because I've never used it. Good luck!

Some ribbons already have adhesive on them (like myphoenix mentioned).

But to get a GOOD stick all the way down, pulling it through a xyron will probably be best.

I love xyron , but you would have to figure out the best way to do it to save money. Something that works well for me for the back of cards etc to stick the "ends" of the ribbons is Art Accentz Terrifically Tacky tape, it comes in many widths and really really sticks. HTH

The xyron is awesome for ribbon, but it can be a bit pricey. I use the red rolls of double sided adhesive. Anyone know who it's by? I can't remember right now. It's awesome though, super strong and easy to adhere! I think it's like $1.99 or $2.99 for a roll, so not that bad. HTH!

I've never tried anything else.

Oh-except for the Making Memories Ribbon Glue and that was HORRIBLE

I've used Ribbon but never used the xyron , I will have to try it next time on my pages.

Making Memories has an AWESOME Ribbon Glue that I always use. I've also had good luck with Glue Dots .

Thanks! I'll probably go with Glue Dots , just because I have an insane amount of ribbon that I have to stick and I'm afraid that xyron might be too expensive.

I use my Hermafix tape runner. I prefer the permanent kind for ribbon. It's fast and easy! I used to use spray adhesive which is economical but the tape runner is sooo much easier and still pretty cheap.
