Collaborative Scrapbooking

Me & my co-workers are developing a Web Page/App to allow users to co-create Scrapbooks.

We are currently developing it and would like your feedback in order to create something you would love to use.

I was a member of a charitable scrap club for yrs. We did different types. Lots of times, we knew of members or family members who were terminally ill so we got their pics & stuff & made the pages for her albums. This was where everyone went somewhere & scrapped each page together (the people who sat at the same table.) Some of these pages were also done by people who could not attend, so they sent pages they made at home. We did this too many times unfortunately. After some of these died, we completed the albums for her children.
We also made albums for members who were moving out of state. Most of those pages were done at home & sent in. We also had other albums we made as a group but mostly pages were made & turned in alone.

I've kind of done it. My SIL was a little newer to scrapbooking than me and wanted to do her wedding album, but wanted to use techniques she hadn't used yet. So, I made suggestions and showed her how to do some things and she did most of the work since it was her album. I was supposed to be scrapping my own stuff but never did get much of that done because we were brainstorming on hers. I could have just as easily been doing part of the work too (if that was the goal)... especially on the more complicated pages. So, if you are working with the right person or persons even, of course you can do collaborative LO's.

I've done circle journals before, when a group of people each make pages for each other's albums, based on a theme, etc. They are very fun

When a friend died very tragically in 2010 all of us in our scrap group got together and made an album for her mom. We pooled photos and everyone did pages of some aspect of her sweet personality that we especially loved as well as pages of some of our good times together. We ended up with a huge, beautiful book and it is making me choke up now just remembering her.

the only one I've done was a gift for the Rabbi of out synagogue who was leaving. I left 12x12 cardstock in the synagogue office for people to take and asked families to make a page of pictures/memories. I then took all the finished pages and put them in a album as a good-bye gift.

But I've never worked collaboratively on a LO

It seems that when scrapbooking with others, each one works on separate pages. What about the same page? Does it make sense?

My bff and I holed up in her apartment one weekend and put together a baby's first year book for one of her friends. We each worked on separate pages, helping each other when asked and offering advice...and eating and going off shopping for more scrapcrap...and eating and laughing. We did a LOT and it was fun...and the book was cute...a 12x12 with about 20 pages.

Oh, I forgot. I've also done a few for charitable causes, where someone organizes an effort to get scrapbookers to make a LO or two for an album that is going to someone for a special cause. For example, I made three LOs for a baby book of a baby that passed away two days after his birth. The woman who organized it took all of the LOs and put them together in a scrapbook for his parents.

I've helped my aunt make an album for her MIL, so I did some of the pages and she did others.

Then in my COF here on sb.com, we've made a couple of albums as gifts for each other. The one they gave me for my birthday is an example. They each did an 8x8 LO of themselves and journaling about our friendship, then sent their LO to a designated mamber, who put it together in a scrapbook and mailed it to me. Such a special gift and I love it!

Interesting - I've wondered how this works - who gets to keep the album. Makes sense about making multiple pages, then everyone gets to "keep" it. Thanks for the good question.

I've done a few different types of collaborative scrapping. A circle journal with a group of friends, each person picked a topic and page size and everyone in the group made a page for everyone else-so my theme was favorite techniques and the album size was 5x7, so everyone made a page of their favorite technique and then we swapped.

I've also taken part in a collaborative album some friends and I made for another friend as a wedding gift. We all scrapped 6 pages of our favorite photos with the bride and when we put it all together we had a great gift with different styles to present to her

I've seen swap-ish groups where everyone makes multiples of a page and then everyone gets a bunch of pages for an album (including one of their own). I've seen this for mini albums on YouTube. Usually there is a theme and one person (the host/ess) collects all the pages and distributes them to group members.

I've also seen travelling journals and scrapbooks, where it gets sent around to several people in a group and everyone contributes a page or a section. If you go to YT and search for mini album page swap, travelling scrapbook, or travelling journal, you'd probably find some examples. I believe there are online communities that are dedicated to this kind of thing.

I'll be watching this thread to see what others say because I know very little about this stuff, lol!

I've done it.

A couple years ago my sister in law created a "Thank you" album for my parents for a trip they all took to Disney together. (My parents took my brother/sister in law and their 4 kids). She scrapped all of the pictures she and my brother took and scrapped the ones my dad took. (my parents stopped here on their way back to PA after the trip and I downloaded all of my dad's pictures so we could all "look at them in a slideshow". They didn't know I was going to make scrapbook layouts from them! Sneaky Sneaky-eh?!! hehehe! )

Anyway, the way it worked is this: I am in GA and my SIL is in PA. I created all of my pages here to the size she was doing the album. When I was done, I sent them to her to add into the album. Because it was a Creative Memories album (She is a CM consultant), I used 98% CM products, which I bought from her - of course.

The album was a surprise and they loved it. Some of the pages that I did for the album are in my gallery.
