Suggestions for making titles for scrap pages manually

If you are handy with a needle and thread, you can stitch titles onto your pages. Either write them free-hand or trace another source, poke holes along the letters and stitch away!

I use stamping as often as possible for my titles. I have alpha stamps but I also use sentiments in stamp sets as my titles. I have found the cutest titles out of stamp sets! I look through my stamp set (I also go to a retreat once a year and the lady brings ALL of her stamps) and I see titles that I like. I use my big shot and framelits to cut out the titles!

stamping was my to-go method before silhouette and before alpha stickers too! Stamping on circles, banner pieces, or stamping a title on a single journaling block/banner flag is the easiest I think, and they can be used and reused over and over.

Another way is stenciling - I recall buying several alpha stencils at the garage sale years ago, and using them for titles. I don't think they were scrapbooky stencils either, just something I could use.

Stamping allows you to get fancy with titles too like glittering or flocking the letters. The reason I don't like it is if you do it on the background, and screw up - you can't redo it.

Interesting but still, I don't trust generic brands or brands that don't say on the package acid free-lignen free.

Plus I hate the look of the cheaper papers on my pages - I'd rather upgrade to a quality paper I'm comfortable with. Next to a quality paper, copy paper looks dirty to me.

I've seen copy papers turn very ugly yellow in a short time and I would be so upset it that happened to any of my scrapbooks.

I buy a paper I buy at Office Depot - I don't remember the exact name of the brand but it has pool balls or billiard balls on the front. It is very white and clean looking - I'm just not happy with regular copy or typing paper. (I'm in Hawaii, my pack of paper is at home in Florida so I can't check.)


Office Max told me all their paper is acid free but when I asked if it was lignen free they didn't have a clue.

And telling me is not good enough. If it is not marked on the package acid free-lignen free - I don't buy it.

The brand at Office depot is marked acid free-lignen free. The wrapper is clear and it comes in a large pack and the quality on the scrapbook pages is so much nicer than regular copy paper.

Ditto! I had no idea about clear paper. Can't wait to try that! Looks soooooooooooooo much easier than working with my silhouette.

Regular copy paper is acid-free in my country. I have a pH tester pen and I check all new packs - it all is.

One of my favourite ways of making title letters without using a Silhouette or Cuttlebug is to punch out repeated simple shapes (circles, squares, hexagons etc.) and stamp a different letter on each. You can ink the edges, and position them unevenly on the page deliberately if you struggle to get them level with each other.

Actually, a lot of regular printer paper is acid free these days.

I'm so glad I read this post. I had no idea there was such a thing as clear adhesive backed film. I am definitely getting some. And once again, Don, I am impressed with your layouts and creativity.

As for titles, I don't always use them, but my suggestion would be to use a computer and print out a title using Word. The trick is what paper to use. If you want acid free and archival, you probably don't want to use the regular copy paper you have loaded. Also, if you wanted to print on card stock, a lot of printers can't pull that through, so test that first.

I use thickers letters for many of my titles.

There's always good old-fashioned hand-writing. Here's the first page I ever made:

I've also used Word to make a stencil, with the letters all connected (using Word Art), printed out reversed, used temporary adhesive to adhere to a road map, and with an exacto knife cut out the word. The road map was for the area we'd been visiting, so it was all on theme. I can't find a photo right now, but can certainly hunt it down if you're interested.

Here are some I did. Scroll thru the album. Two are cutouts, I used a stencil in reverse on the backside and cut. The other was printed on my 'puter. You could reverse it and cut also.

I use the product below for titles and for journaling:

Before there were die cutting machines, we used draw out letters and cut them, use stickers or pre made titles or use pencils,pens etc. to make a tag or title.

You can find sayings online and print on colored card stock. That is all I can think of other than cutting them out by hand.

I don't have an electronic machine that makes titles for scrap pages. Besides using store bought letters, are there other inexpensive ways to make titles?
