Cricut Letters or Sticker Letters?

I have a Silhouette still in the box. I need to break that out and use it. I also have a Cricut - which I rarely use.

I'm a fan of Thickers for the texture they add to a page but I love seeing all the welded titles so I may be pulling my Silhouette out of the box soon!

I got my Silhouette thinking I'd use it for lettering instead of stickers but I use it for so much more! Just saying that if you buy a Cricut or something similar you'll probably end up using for a lot more than you originally thought.

I almost always use my Cricut letters. While the stickers are easy, they quickly add up in cost and if you are going to do a lot of scrapping, you may find that a Cricut (or similar) is actually a good choice from a cost perspective. I know I do. I also really like how easy it is to mat my letters and perfectly coordinate my page

add the word machine to slice and you should come up with the machine. Alert, however, the machine has been discontinued.

if i were to google for a slice, what would i type in, cos slice just comes back with recipes

while I have a cricut, I am planning to purchase the sillhouett because I can use the fonts already on my computer and i'm not limited at that point to any cartridges, I do use my cricut on almost every layout I do, but if I have alphas that come with a collection, sometimes i'll use those too. if I want a thicker, I save the backing to my dcwv stacks and I simply make my own chipboard letters. it's really a personal preference though...

I use both...and usually always on the same layout I like the look of different fonts in my titling.

Great suggestion - the Archivers in Kennesaw Georgia had a diecut machine and lots of letters and images - you just had to buy the paper there and that is fair. They even helped you use them if you didn't know how.

At Michaels they have $5.00 crops and at ours in Ocala they have a Cricut set up in the back of the room that you can use. Some of the ladies at the crops make tons of things to take home with them to use on other layouts which is okay as long as you aren't hogging the machine when someone else wants to use it for something they are working on.

I use my Cricut all the time and I use stickers all the time too. But sometime I don't have the right color or style sitcker, or I'm missing a letter I need in my leftover stash so the Cricut comes in handy, and sometimes I reach for the Cricut first because I may have the perfect font for what I need.

But if you don't have a Cricut yet, maybe check a LSS and see if they have a die cut machine youcan use. I use to mdo that before I owned a Cricut and sometimes sticker would add up when I wanted to spend my $$ on other items.

Cricut Craft Room is very easy. I tried the Gypsy and after a year of making bad titles I packed it away and I don't even know where it is anymore. Hated that that thing!

I love CCR. It is downloaded for free from the Cricut website.

However, to really see what it is, what it does and how to use it go to utube tutorials. It is full of Cricut tutorials and they will show you what it does and how to do it - then you can decide if it is right for you.

The Cricut was very difficult for me to use but the CCR program has made it very easy for me.

We are one vacation now - I always travel with my laptop. When we go somewhere or do something fun in the daytime I pull up CCR at night and make up my title and its ready to cut when I get home.

I still use a lot of stickers because I like the dimension you get with them and they are easy if I'm making pages at crops and haven't cut out my Cricut letters ahead of time.

The big advantage to CCR is it is so easy to weld the letters together!

Where is the craft room you are talking about? I am thinking about getting a Cricut for Christmas and the way people are talking it is so difficult to use so now I am having second thoughts. I am a beginner scrapbooker and from what I have done I feel the pages are terrible.

I love using stickers Thickers are my favorite.

I like the Cricut letters.. but still go to stickers way more. It is just easier. I do love my gypsy with my cricut. But I try to cut a whole bunch at a time and then store them with my future project. And what I don't get to cut ...I use my stickers.

You will love the craftroom! I can't wait to play with it every day! I'm using my Cricut on a daily basis and before it sat neglected most of the time! It really fun now!

Can you scrapbook just using alpha stickers? Absolutely! Can you take your scrapbooking up a notch by purchasing a die cutting machine like the Cricut? Absolutely! I still keep a pretty large stash of alpha stickers because sometimes you just need them. But I use my Cricut(s) alot - I have the original Cricut and an Expression. One of my new goals after reading some info in the Forum is to check out the Cricut Craft Room and optimize some of the features of the Cricut. It's free - so what do I have to lose?

If the Cameo would have been out when I got my Cricuts, I would have gotten the Cameo instead of 2 Cricuts and all those cartridges!

I'm with Henri Jean..I have a cricut but seldom use it as I don't have a dedicated space for it..I have to take it out of the box and bla bla bla. I do use it occasionally. The good thing about it is you only cut the letters you need. And you don't run out of certain letters.
I have so many letter stickers and I always run out of vowels and the more common letters..but still I buy more.

I wish I had waited longer and compared the Cricut to the Silhouette.

However, when I got mine there was no Cameo yet and I wanted the wider cutting area. If I had it to do over today I would probably get the Cameo over the Cricut.

I would start with stickers before investing in a Cricut. And if you really want a die cut machine, weigh your options first. For example, you could get a Cameo and cut anything you want basically, or get a Cricut and have to buy cartridges and have limited functionality.

Did nearly 2 hours on CCR and figured out the basics with the help of a lot of You Tube tutorials. Actually it was really easy.

The Gypsy is so complicated for me - I could never get the spacing right to weld but with CCR you just hit a button a couple times and the letters close in perfectly! Different as night and day on the difficulty level.

Tomorrow one of my projects will be to figure out how to link all my cartridges that are now on the Gypsy.

My goal tonight is to spend at least 2 hours on CCR to learn to weld and do more with my Cricut. Then I plan to devote 2 hours every night just to learning more about my Cricut!

Another tip on getting Cricut letters straight - buy a roll of drywall tape. I bought mine 4 years ago and still have 2/3 of the roll left so it lasts a long time!

Cut your letters on the Cricut - they will be perfectly straight and evenly spaced and in perfect alignment.

Press a piece of drywall tape over the letters while they are still in the mat and the paper or cardstock is still on the mat.

Lift the letters with the drywall tape - you may need to use the little spatula to help. If it goes caddy-wampus when you are lifting it then put the letter back into its place on the mat and lift it again.

Your letters will be perfectly aligned and perfectly spaced.

When you get ready to glue them down just put glue (I use a glue pen) on the back of the letters and since the drywall tape is loosely woven you can see exactly where to put it on your layout. I use the clear ruler to line up the bottoms of the letters.

Press the letters down firmly and then carefully lift up the drywall tape. You will not have to place the individual letters at all - and they will look perfect!

Takes 2 minutes instead of 20.

Like Darla said though, a Cricut is expensive - make sure you are going to love scrapbooking before you make an investment that large.

If you're just planning the one book for now, you might find the Cricut is a bit expensive by the time you buy it, the required mat, and the cartridge(s) you need. I'd stick with just the sticky alphabets until you know that this is something you really want to invest in. (Although I LOVE my Cricut, I'm just being realistic.)

Get one of those clear plastic rulers with a grid marked on it. Line the letters up against the very top line on the grid (so most of the letter is sticking above the ruler) and then press them onto the page. That will help you stick them down evenly. (Or even better, intentionally stick them down at random angles and you don't even have to worry about them being even!)

I would definitely use stickers, at least for now. That's all that I use for letters.

Great advice! I would get alpha sticker packs for now. Cricuts are expensive. The Slice is more affordable, but I would still start small if I were you. Stickers are quicker, too.

The Slice is a small electric machine that uses cartridges about the size of an SD card in a camera.

It doesn't have the ability to do as much as the Cricut or Cameo but does have the little cards with images and letters. Can usually be found pretty inexpensively and is easy to take to crops.

I like that I don't have to figure blade speeds and depth of cutting like I do with my Cricut. I just throw the card in the machine and cut.

It cut 1", 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", 3', 3 1/2" and 4" of any of the images or letters which is plenty of selection of me.

I just like it because it is so easy.

I have a Cricut but I still grab sticker letters because they are so much easier to deal with. I seldom use my Cricut - don't know why, just seems to be more trouble than it is worth most of the time.

I use my Slice a lot more than I use my Cricut - I find the Slice so much easier to use.

But I like the ease of using sticker letters although many brands don't stick really well.

I'm planning to have different words on my pages and wondered how I would cut these out...then I discovered the cricut machines. Since I'm very new to scrapbooking is it worth getting the machine or should I just buy alphabet stickers instead? As of right now I just want to make a scrapbook for my boyfriend.
