It's not new but Kiwi Lane Design templates are fun and easy to play with. Using the paper you have, you can use what you bought. I love them! I did a blog post showing a layout but I have several on my blog:

I have not used one yet but i like the idea and they seen "IN" are the WrMK punch boards they have one for flowers, alphbets, and many others.
I recconmend ::
Big Shot -- with a couple of embossing folders, and a few dies
a good pair of scissors ( cutter bee or fiskars are great)
adhesive ok not a tool oops
Mini Misti stampling press is awesome i hear
A few things to ignore from experience:
a. the sew easy tool unless you have 30 min to kill sewing yourself pretty much by hand not worth the price i won one and have never used it
b. the gelli plate -- its a mess and the end result is not satisfactory in my opinion of course if i could i would return or sell these items !
c. Michaels stapler for crafting hard to use and hurts you
GOOD LUCK and have some fun crafting again -- itll all come back you still got that mojo girl !!!

Well, you can't beat a decent paper trimmer that cuts straight -- and if you find one, please let me know. ;-)
Right now, I'm all about my foiler; but I'm about 12 months behind the trends (as usual). Shiny things are still hot though, appearing as accents on stickers, or in entire paper lines. If you like a bit (or a lot) of foiling, there's plenty of cool new product to choose from right now.
I'm getting to know my Silhouette die-cutter again after a brief hiatus (just got carried away with other stuff for a while). I can't imagine how I scrapbooked without it. I know that I did, but it's like trying to imagine life without a cell phone. So, yep, a die-cutter of some kind is a good thing to have.
Also trending are travelers notebooks. I think they're pretty cool but, if you've been living in a hotel for a while, you might want to go bigger rather than smaller. The world has gone planner-mad, apparently, but I mostly use planner kits in my notebooks.
Do you like to use stamps or mixed media in your scrapbooking? If so, do try some of the Distress Oxide Inks. They're wonderful for stamping and embossing and they blend like butter.
Depends on how you like to scrapbook....personally I use my big shot and dies all the time, mists, inks. Good paper cutter, stamps (I prefer the acrylic unmounted stamps), and paper - lots and lots of paper
I am looking at the generic mist because I can't afford that one right now. I hope to find one soon. I also bought the WeRMemories laser alignment tool and so far I like it. Havent' had a chance to use it much yet.
Misti stamping tool. I quit stamping because I could not always get a perfect stamp. But this tool lets you position the unmounted stamps and you can get a perfect stamp every time.
Die cutting machines and dies. My favorite is a Big Shot and all kinds and prices of dies are out there.
I guess it really depends on what you want to do. This site covers a lot of papercrafting areas. I do a little of everything, or as The Queen prefers to put it, a lot of nothing.
I can only supply you with a list of the tools that are essential to me personally, I have no idea of "what's in":
die-cut machine (big shot)
heat gun
stamping tool (wrmk precision press)
paper cutter
In your opinion, what are the MUST HAVE tools and supplies this year?
I've been living in a hotel and out of the scrapbooking loop for a couple years now. I was just wondering what the hip techniques and styles are. What's "IN" these days?
