Old pictures in old albums

Patience, Dental floss and the creative memories multi purpose tool. Thats what I used on 13 magnetic photo albums. It took me many hours to floss the pictures out of the books but I didn't end up with any ruined or damaged photos.

Dental floss and the hairdryer on low heat, low air. Then because they were sticky I set them on waxpaper.

Dental Floss, I used this on an album of my Grandma's and it worked great getting all the old pictures out!!

I recommend Undu, available at scrapbooking stores. It is a chemical that you put onto the photos. It will seep through to the back, and dissolve the adhesive. Then you can gently peel off the photos from the magnetic album pages. At first, you may be scared of what it will do to the photo, as it appears wet. But the undu evaporates, and leaves your photo intact. If you are concerned about it, try it on a photo that you are not so fond of, and see if it does the job well. Then if it works out, you can do it on others.

After a while, the adhesive reactivates, so don't leave the photo in place.

Word to the wise: magnetic pages are bad for photos, so I recommend you get those valuable photos transfered to an archival album. Maybe your mom does not know that the album could damage her pictures.

I also had a major job of restoring old photos, found in a shoe box, with hand writing on them.
You are doing something important for your family, so I'd be surprised if they don't appreciate your intervention.

why dont u make a picture of that photos by your camera?
just put it to high-quality mode and put more light on photos. this will help u to get high-quality copy of photos.

From my experience, Un-Du is the best product out there for removing any adhesive. It also has removed ink stains from the cover of one of my Hiller Albums. It is an awesome product that every Scrapper needs in their stash.

I've used UnDo in a similar case - I just lift one edge of the photo (wherever it's loose) and work the UnDu under it. Works great and doesn't hurt the photo. The other thing, though, is to get a piece of fish line (or thin dental floss) and rock it underneath the photo. A lot of times that will loosen them without damage.

I think Kelly is right; I don't think un-du would work, because the adhesive is not showing (it's covered by the pic). It was a good thought, though!

I did this for my mom. She also used those old albums. Do you have any of the following:
1 - the little piece of brown plastic you use to clean a Pampered Chef baking stone
2 - the tool from Creative Memories that comes with the sticker picker-up thing and some clips

You can take either of those or something similar and work the corner of it under the edge of the photo and keep gently prying with it.

I also heard that you can use dental floss! If you roll out a piece and hold it along the side of the photo, then work it under all the way across.

I just looked in the sb store for it. It is for removing stickers and residue not sure if that would work. I had that problem with old pics too. I just very carefully removed them. Maybe just scan a whole page then crop out one pic and copy it. or just cut the page if the other side i

You're doing the right thing by scanning them first. Have you tried Un-du on any of them? You might want to test a corner of one and see if it works. Just make sure to test first that the Un-du won't damage the photo.

My mom has these old albums with these old black and white photos but they're those albums where the photo gets stuck to the page. I want to scan and re-print them but I can't remove them without either ripping the photo or really damaging it. Has anyone come across this situation? And if anyone knows, how can I remove them safely?
