It is the gummy stuff, but more like a really thin double sided tape. I find the ATG a lot easier to use than the Tombow , actually, because of the trigger. It does take a couple applications to get the hang of it, but after that, you'll be zipping along like crazy.

I've only had my ATG 714 for a month, but I absolutely LOVE IT! I used to use photo splits, and i swear taking off those stupid little tabs would not only make a huge mess, but would take up 1/3 of the time of doing a layout. Now I can spend more time scrapping and less time peeling stupid tabs off. The only drawback is that you can't reposition anything once the tape's on, but I'm super careful to begin with, so that's no biggie.

I think the 1/4" is the perfect size, because you can use it on ribbon and other narrow embellies, and you really don't need much at all.

I have both. I had the 700 for an at home job I used to have and have lots of leftover tape that isn't acid free. I bought the 714 for scrapbooking. I like the 1/4" of the 714 -- it's the perfect width. I use the 700 1/2" for non-photo stuff since the tape I have isn't acid free. It is SUPER strong, and it's tricky to take apart -- doable but sometimes with damage. That being said, I absolutely LOVE the ATG. It's pricey but a great investment. So many of my pages from before that were done with other adhesive runners are coming undone.

The ATG 700 uses 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch refills and the 714 uses 1/4 inch. I bought the 700 for the versality, but honestly, this adhesive is so strong I don't think I would ever need the 3/4 inch roll. All rolls are 36 feet.
