What to expect at convention

I must say, I was greatly disappointed. I was going only to shop, so maybe the crops would have made my trip worthwile. There was lots of paper and basics that I could get just about anywhere. I went to a Convention last year and did enjoy myself. It is overwhelming as there are so many booths selling so many items. I agree with other posts that prices were not discounted and not much different from the stores. The make and takes were great and lots of fun and were free or not too expensive. It was very crowded, some people let you take pictures of layouts, some had signs posted not to. Lots of walking, wear sneakers, bring a snack, food was expensive. They did not allow a cart with wheels so bring a big bag to carry your stuff in and most important, bring a ton of money!! Have fun.

Also, If you sign up early, u can volunteer and get free stuff like I did at CKC and at their station. I met new people and experienced my first scrapbook convention. Like u, I had high expectations I guess and was disappointed that there was not more unique scrapbooking items or more vendors. This was in Houston and was from Thurs. to Sat.

I would luv 2 go 2 an Expo and/or convention but they never come my way I live in Burlington County, NJ so I really dont have advice LOL but I would agree w/the container 4 pgs

My sister and I attend two Scrapbook expos a year. I have not been to a convention but am thinking they're pretty much the same thing. Someone let me know the differences if there are any.
Wear comfortable clothes and SHOES.
Bring a paper carrier..we each bring one and they hold most of the stuff we buy.
You can usually find a place to eat but we usually carry a snack and a small bottled water too.
There are make and takes that are sometimes free or cost 2-5 bucks. If they have sign ups, sign up early.
The dollar booths get crowded early so do those first.
We usually try to cruise through the whole place one time without stopping much just to get an idea of who has what and then we can plan where we should start shopping.
It gets crowded so bring lots of patience.
Bring mucho money..better to have too much than not enough. We took my frugal neighbor along once and she limited herself to only 50 bucks and was sorry....next time she said she would bring more. My sis never spends all she brings...I do.
Don't expect to see the very latest of every line..you may be disappointed. But you will see lots of cool stuff. Last time we found Stickles for $1.50 and Thickers for $2.00. I always find lots of stuff I didn't know I needed and there are some bargains besides the dollar booth.

take a nice tote to carry everything in and I always take a bottle of water. Our expo wouldn't let us take pictures. Also, wheeled carts were not aloud.

take your joanns coupons. if they are at the expo you can probably use them

I have never been to a convention (they don't come around my parts), but went to ScrapFest this year and had a blast. I would like to go to a convention once just to see what it's like though.

I went to my first last year, it was a CKC, I was very disappointed. I thought there would be more companies there showing new products and selling things at a more reasonable price. But there were many vendors who were selling things at prices that were not much different than buying at the store. I did enjoy the crops I attended on two of the evenings. I took a camera and took pictures of some of the layouts.

It was the first time the convention had been in our state and it was announced they would be back this year, but that didn't happen. It might be both the attendees and the vendors were both disappointed.

Each of us has different expectations, so go with the thought you are going to enjoy it.

Yes, it it CKC. I didn't think to take my camera because I expected that no one would let me photograph. Thanks for the advice!

Is it CKC? If so, I went to CKC last month in San Marcos, TX. I was not too impressed. There were ALOT of booths selling page kits. They were pretty pricey. I'm just not a page kit scrapper. Bring something to carry your paper in so it doesn't get bent. I would also take a camera. Most vendors will let you take photos of their layouts so you can refer back to them once you are home.
