Ok, so I'm making four 12 x 12 scrapbook albums (meaning whoever buys it just has to add pics) and one 8 x 8 All Girl album. I need advice on how much to charge for them at a craft fair that I'm going to be a vendor in. Any help? How much would you charge/pay for these? You can look in my gallery to see some example layouts.
1- Baby Boy book - 10 layouts
2- Family Album (covers all holidays)...
I totally agree with you Scrapbook Queen - we are artists and need to charge a decent amount for our work. I price my pages by adding the total materials cost and my hourly wage. For example.... say a page takes me half an hour, and I want a wage of $20 per hour. So - $5 for materials + $10 wage = $15 per page. Times that by the number of pages, and add the album cost.
I was going to start a business doing custom albums, but have decided to do framed pages instead (as has already been mentioned). They are much more afforable, especially in these tough economic times.
And a framed layout is finished quickly, so there's no risk of getting bored when I'm half way through an album, but have to keep going because someone is waiting for it.
I'll sell them privately or through gift shops, florists, bridal shops etc. I'm thinking of selling to shops at a 'wholesale' price, rather than putting them in on a consignment basis. That way I'll have my money straight away - no waiting until something is sold, then wasting petrol going back to collect my money.
Good luck wichever way you decide to go.
a snippet... I knew a CMC back in 2002 who was commissioned to make a 40 page wedding album. She charged $3000 for it - and the bride was happy to pay the price for a hand made original. WOW - put the "W" word in the equation and the skys the limit on pricing.
But that was in the days before digital scrapping made it all so easy for everyone. I can't see the average person paying that kind of money these days. But you never know................ lol.
