What Scrapbooking Tool Did You Waste Money On?

I think we've all bought some type of scrapbooking tool that we didn't like or ever really use. Mine was that glass mat and cutter set. Never could figure it out or get it to cut properly. What's yours?

I have this Fiskars oval cutter and I just hate it so it going down to TX to a retreat and hopefully someone else will take it from me.

An eyelet setting set with a huge mallot. I hate eyelets and have never used the set. I thought buying the set would make me like them, but it didn't!

From Creative Memories I bought their DecoFile Organizer and it sucks. It is such an odd shape to fit anything in! I wish I never spent the $20 bucks on it.

Probably the Fiskars shape cutter. The templates probably wouldn't be so bad just to trace, but I can never cut them out neatly.

When I first began buying stuff I bought a ton of stickers. I don't really like the way stickers look now, unless they just contain words.

recently the fastenator....i could put those staples on by hand ...but i'm sure i've bought 'worthless' stuff in the past years.

I bought a Fiskars 12" trimmer (one of the purple ones) and I can't stand it. I like the one from CM much better.

I have 2 things

Fiskars Shape boss.....I have never embossed

and

The Fastenator...although I am gonna use this thing yet...I have way too many staples

I'd have to agree with GG... I bought a Shapeboss too. Since I haven't even used it I'd say that would have to be my waste of money- although I do have every intention of using it as soon as I find a purpose!

I also got a set of 32 pearl ex powders a long time ago off of the auction site that I haven't used- but I don't think they're a waste cuz they're so pretty even in the containers!

Not that this has been a total waste, but the
item(s) I use the least are the CM shape templates. I have only used them that first time I went to a crop, and twice since. Now I am letting my friend borrow them...someome needs to get use out of them.

CM shape makers - the stars. I actually get a fair amount of use out of the square and circle punches, but I don't think I've used the stars even once. It's ok though, I pull them out for workshops, most beginners love to use them!

CM oval shape cutters. I have NEVER used them even one time. Don't tell my dh.

I bought a press n' boss kit from anna griffin. I havent use them yet. But I planning to, when I think of something. lol

I have several.
1. light box with brass stencils--thank god they're a gift.
2. huge pkg cheap cardstock(don't like 3/4 colours)
3. 1/2 the stuff i own, i shouldn't have bought!!

ARGH!!!

Well, this isn't exactly a tool, but when I first started scrapping I bought this huge scrapping book that's about 2" thick, actually 4 books in one, because I thought it was such a bargain. It was a waste of money because:
1) It is very heavy and bulky so it's hard to look at unless you are sitting at the table so I rarely pick it up.
2) The author's style is very professional but it looks kind of dated.
3) I can find way more interesting LO ideas at scrapbook.com!

Fiskars circle cutter . . . never got the hang of that thing! Yuk!

... i guess i can't say I have wasted money on any tools... just because I am on a pretty tight budget for sb stuff (you know... the big "you can't eat the paper or use the adhesive to run your car" budget thing... ) so even the few things i have that i don't really like to use I have found that I have to use them.. or i just make up other things into tools... you know things you find laying around the apartment.... you get really creative when you are short on cash lol

Two things...Coluzzle, b/c I can't get the knife to work (it didn't come with a blade...) and the Basic Grey notch thingy...I have yet to pick it up...

I bought a couple things I now regret: a) shape templates (the kind you use an exacto knife with) and b) stickers. I discovered after I'd bought the templates and exacto that I am just not coordinated to use the knife, nor do I really have any use for the templates. I also very quickly discovered I don't like stickers much, except the ones with words on them.

Not a tool, but I bought a lot of 89 laser die cuts. They're huge and overly cartoonish, like a 5 inch sippy cup die cut, a 4 inch tall stick of dynamite (happy 4th all), and a 3-4 inch diaper pin just to give you an idea. The idea of using one or two of them is challenging, 89 is um not going to happen.

No. 1 was the Fiskars shape cutter and templates, but I sold them at my LSS yard sale.

No. 2 so far has been my Perfect Layers. I know many of you love it, but I even bought a glass mat and that worked better, but I still don't get "Perfect Layers". I'm going to practice some more before I get rid of it.

oh man I got a perfect layers and I cannot figure the darn thing out...I must be nuts but my friend has it and she cuts awesome layers....there is hope yet...I am gonna get a training session in July! LOL

I use that perfect layers all the time!

For me it was my Sizzix. I had alphabets, bitty doll dies, and all sorts of misc shapes but only used a few things once. It's kind of funny actually since I use the Wishblade I replaced them with all the time. They went to a friend who I know uses them all the time so we are all even!

I HAD to have the Making Memories Tag Maker and have used it once and don't really care for it

The Basic Grey notch tool.Only used it once, then sold it on ebay for half of what I paid. A HUGE waste of money.

I too have bought stuff that was a huge waste of money. First I bought the circle scissors...when that didn't work, I bought the Fiskars . When that didn't work, I bought the CM shape cutters...every shape. Now I don't use any of them. If only I had all that money back for beautiful ribbons, papers, rubons...

Oh well - Live and learn.

Magic Matter. I thought it was a brilliant idea and then I haven't used it. Oh well.

I have the Fiskars shape cutters and I can't use it for nothing, it damages my paper and photos. I also have the press n' boss from anna griffin and the end that you use for the rub ons doesn't work very well because it bends!

The biggest waste of money for me was that Little worthless sewing machine from Provo Craft. Don't remember what it's called. But I never could get that thing to sew!

Gee where do I begin I also have card stock that I recieved as a present.I've only used 5 sheets of a 50 sheet pack.They are UGLY colors..

And I bought a mini sewing machine.Must have had a brain block that day .I have a regular size one.

I have ribbon that I don't know where I came from.It must have float from the sky.It doesn't match nothing .

My tool is a light box that I asked Santa for this past Xmas. Thought I could use it to try dry embossing....

My biggest waste of money was a Creative Memories scrapbook (although not technically a tool..) Got on my very first day scrapping and didn't know any better. I was thinking I could use it for a family history/heritage kind of album and just adhere pages on top, but now I'm not so keen on that, either.

The Melting Pot. You know, that thing you put ultra thick embossing enamel in and then plug it in and the pot melts it so you can .... And that's it. That's where I got stuck. I could just never figure out what the heck I was supposed to be doing with a puddle of UTEE. Sigh. I think it's me; I just don't have a cool, out-of-the-box creative process.

I am sure there is something I bought that I dont use, I will have to look and see. I do have a coluzzle and I like it, but dont use it much, I have the CM circle and oval cutter but dont use it either. I like them, just dont use them. I use a regular stapler, not sure what the Notch thing does, but I have seen it.
Oh I remember now soemthing with wire, a tool to make wire words or something like that.

Let's see..somewhere at my mom's house is an embossing set...I've never used it on an actual layout and I have no idea where it is nor have I ever stopped working on a page and thought "gee I wish I had that..." I've also bought some stickers (particularly valentine's stickers) that I bought and liked but I have absolutely no use for them right now. I'm holding on to them with a dream that someday I'll need a use for 75 different style of heart stickers...all red...and pink.

I have a tool tote VERY similar to the AMM one everyone loves- exept it's a little bigger and WAY sturdier........I HAD to have one, since everyone i know loves theirs. I like it, love it, in fact, but since I scrap out of a tiny (and I mean TINYYYYY) computer armoire, I've no room for it and it just aggrivated me!!

So if anyone wants it, I'm selling for $25.00 and that includes the shipping! LOL

Fiskars light boss, quilling tools, sizzix-use it way more at crops and use the one there, patterened scissors, lots other lol. the one thing i do love is my karen clickit tool tho.

The Ek Success Bladerunner. That thing and I never got along.

For me, definitely the silent setter, the light box and brass stencils, AND the Fiskars circle cutters.

If I knew then what I knew now, I wouldn't have bought the Fiskars shape cutter. I still have mine and use it on accasion but eventually I want a CM shape cutter.

I also have a 12 x 15 CM album which was my first album. I liked it but I prefer top loading 3-ring binders so I can scrap what I want and move things around.

tfringa - yes, the glass mat and cutter. grrr. That thing is on its second move with me (though it's going in storage this time). Maybe it will get lost and never resurface to remind me of its existence? Oh I'd be so lucky.

AND the purple Fiskars cutter with interchangable grids.

lots of slide mounts with cloud and notebook patterns! I dunno what I was thinking! I guess I should just cover it up with plain cs..or pp.. just never got around to doing it

also bought the Magic Matter! Just used it 2x! totally useless, and who can forget that blade runner!! last, i have some old pps that I actually thought looked great--bought them when I was still starting, now I'm just looking to use them for gifts.

My tool would have to be the Fiskars shape cutter. I used to think it was ok, but now I can't stand that thing. I also wasted a lot of $$ on embossing templates and alphabets for the shape cutter.

If I remember correctly the main complaints were that it got jammed up a lot and it didn't have a bobbin filling mechanism so you either had to fill bobbins for it on another machine or you had to just keep buying their pre-filled bobbins which were only available in black and white.

Singer makes a small $50 machine that I've read good things about. Sorry I don't remember the model but I saw one at Wal-mart. I just picked up a nice full size sewing machine at the thrift store for $20. Whatever you get, test it out first! I have another machine (garage sale find)that sews great but has a really touchy pedal. It basically has 2 speeds- complete stop and 100 miles per hour! I may use it someday to make curtains or to sew circus tents or something but it is way too touchy to sew any intricate details!
