differences between pigment ink and dye ink

so, can anyone tell me the differences between these types of inks? and maybe which ones do what? i am lost! thanks

pigment ink stays wet much longer and is "juicier" It is good for heat embossing, water color stamping, smearing techniques etc

dye ink dries quickly leaves a crisper, clearer image and works better on slick surfaces

ahhh, ok.. so pigment ink would be better for inking edges of pp?? thanks for splaining it to me!

I use both kinds for inking edges..... you should try both on scraps to see which look you like...

I use either for inking the edges of paper. I usually only use the pigment ink for embossing.

ok.. so for just regular stamping use the dye ink? and then embossing.. which i havent done yet and am not quite ready to take it on (i just started stamping and using ink).. use the pigment ink. ok.. got it! thanks guys!!

Pigment ink is more like paint and will sit on top of the paper (on some surfaces it will take forever or never dry). Dye ink is waterbased, and is more like clothing dye and it will soak into the paper.

Pigment inks are richer in color because they sit on top, and because they stay wet a long time they are perfect for heat embossing. If you're not using embossing powder you'll probably want to heat set them anyway so they'll dry faster and the color will be richer.

Pigment inks are often recommended for stamping in scrapbooks because the dye inks can fade over time.

I normally just use dye inks because I'm a cardmaker and I like the fast dry time.

I've been looking at alcohol inks too, but they're just too pricey to get into right now, even with discount coupons.

Chalk inks are awesome! The leave a really think layer of ink and it looks like chalk. I love them. Holly you should go buy some right away!

I really like chalk inks! They give a nice clean image.

Cassie, you have convinced me!!!!! Not that I'm hard to convince, but do you use them the say way you use regular inks????? I'm thinking a white chalk ink might show up better than regular white ink on black cs, etc,,,,

I've never tried white chalk ink - but i love all the other colors. I LOVE to edge a page or mini album with it.

Here's an example where I used Colorbox chalk ink (i think it's the one in the antiquing set):

they have reg colors and also metallic colors!!!!!!

yes... you must must watch it again! its wicked awesome and i think you need alcohol inks too!

You can blow through a straw too...It works but be careful not to spit!LOL.....although that just gives you a different look too!ROFL

oh that is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT video than I saw,,,,,,,same stuff, same guy, but different technique,,,,,,on the one I saw he blotted with the ink blotter on glass and on lots of stuff,,,,

you-tube his alcohol inks and you'll probably see lots of techniques,,,,,,

that one is awesome too!!!!
