Glimmer Mist

Just got back from a crop and wanted to know your thoughts on the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I bought some and was curious how much others like it and/or tips. I'm pretty excited my new purchase.

What colors are your favorites? I bought the Coffee Shop.

Coffee shoppe is my fave, so much so that I am sadly out of it right now..... It works wonders "aging" papers and flowers, and has a bit of a "coppery" look to it. Have fun with it!

I LOVE glimmer mist! I haven't tried coffee shop although that is next on my list. I have about 10 colors now. I love them for flowers to age paper and age and color grungeboard.

I think you will enjoy them. Tattered leather and Sand are my favorites...I'm almost out of Sand in fact.

I must be the only person that hasn't got any Glimmer Mist, I have to be completely honest and admit I don't really know what you'd do with it....any suggestions for me?

Coffee shop is my fave too. I also like the gold shimmer that looks silverish in the bottle. (??)

When I want to use GM, I go into my walking shower and spray. Very easy to clean up and its contained, the spray coats/splatters stuff in a 2 foot diameter. ARGHH my papers!

I got two bottles as a prize and struggle with what to do with it too. My son and I used it on his Valentines and I've put some on cards, but I've never used it on a LO. I have a bright pink and a smoky blue, so perhaps if I had a more neutral color I'd use it.

My favorite use is on flowers. I buy inexpensive white flowers and spray them whatever color I want or need for a lo. I also LOVE the look of them on grungeboard. I usually use a similar color distress ink first and then spray with glimmer mist...turns out terrific. The Tattered Leather looks really good on paper to give it a distressed look and the on grungeboard.

I've done a few backgrounds with the stencils, still practicing mostly, but I finally did one yesterday that turned out pretty good and will be used as a background page on a lo soon.

I've found some helpful tutorials on Youtube. And I also saw where some people took a good size old cardboard box and spray the project inside there. That is what I'm going to start doing.

I have a few bottles, but haven't used them much. it does make a bit of a mess, and you have to be careful about overdoing it, cause your paper can wrinkle, etc. but if you don't spray alot, i almost feel like you can't really even see it sometimes.

I tried it at a retreat in May. We stencilled with it and masked with it on a layouts. Although it is interesting - it didn't make me want to get some right away for sure. I don't like how sometimes it blobs on spots - I am not much of a distresser so that is probably why it isn't something I just need to have.

I have a ton of more examples in my gallery, I love it, I have been using it like crazy!

I bought one bottle (old lace) and have used it on a few lo's. I tried masking as well. It's kinda neat, not sure if I'm totally in love with it. It is great for pages with a distressed look, which I don't do very often, maybe that's why I only think it's okay! I think I may like it if I got another colour or two, something darker, the old lace is a bit too subtle for me.

I used Glimmer Mist "Leather" to change a stark-white flower into a color that would fit well with my card. I put the flower on a paper plate, and then sprayed, and later tossed the plate. Good idea about spraying in the walk-in shower. I sprayed over my kitchen counter, and was left with some clean up to do, despite using the paper plate.

I use my glimmer mist on top of newspaper in the garage. I read that if you get blobs, you should use a paper towel to wipe across it gently.

I LOVE Glimmer Mist. I only have one colour "Daffodil" and I'm hoping to get more.

I find if you spray it heavily on just a thin sheet of paper the paper will warp and curl. I use it to spray a gentle "mist" of glimmer overtop of some LOs and heavier cardstock. I love the overall finish of it.

I have two light colored ones, gold and snow angel (pink), and they give a sweet glow and shimmer to pages although this doesn't show up in photos too well. It does warp the pp a bit but flattens out in the album. I have been wanting to get a darker color and I like the sound of that coffee shop so I may give that a whirl.

If you use a heat embosser to dry it, it will curl, but you can just bend it back. (I sorta like the way it curls.)

i like it...but it's expensive...so i make my own i am a ctmh consultant, and i use our re-inkers, but any brand will do. i use the ranger spritzer bottles, about 6-7 drops of re-inker, then a little dab of shimmer dust...and voila! =)

I have about 9 differnt colors, you can use it on chipboard. I have sprayed it on Technique Tuesday circles and shapes and I love it. It is a bit pricey but I love the shine it has.

I have made my own with reinker and perfect pearls as well, it works great!

I am really getting into the Glimmer Mist love myself. I got some recently in my Scrap n' Art DT pack and just LURVED working with it! I have several projects coming up using it in the September/October issue, and I used some of my leftovers on these projects.

Manda, I just love your lo's. I really like the glimmer mist... I just need to know more about it I guess....or I just need to get over the questioning and jump in! LOL probably the later! I'm a learn all about then try person...trying to change though!

When I first got Glimmer Mist I was dumbfounded too--just thought you spray it on paper. There really is alot you can do with it!

Okay you all NEED to get some Glimmer Mist! LOL I have probably close to 100 bottles. There are LOADS of colors to choose from. When a layout feels really flat and dull, even if my pics are on, I place a mat over the pics to protect them and then mist the page. I did that on this page:

Super thing paper will curl but you can get alot of the curl out with a heat gun--or just GM on sturdier paper.

You can use masks and Glimmer Screens (stencils) to create backgrounds. You can even spray the screens with mist and then stamp with them to create images like I did on this layout:

I like to use a nonstick Craft Mat to GM on. It won't soak up the extra spray like newspaper, paper towels, and paper plates do. If you are spraying white Prima flowers you can then press the flowers into the mist on the mat to soak the excess up -- saves money. You can also rub flowers or chipboard letters and shapes int the excess splatters on the mat to color those items. If you're using paper towels or even your shower, that is money being thrown away!

This started out as a stark white Zutter Cover-All and I used Glimmer Mist sprinkled with table salt o create a frosty effect. I learned that little trick from Cheryl McAdam of the TA Desgin Team:

GM does look great on grungeboard but you can use it on regular chipboard too. The first chipboard page in this mini book was sprayed with Tiger Lily Glimmer Mist, nothing else, to create the deep orange color.

You can dip a paint brush in it and paint with it, gorgeous on watercolor paper.

You can spray some on a nonstick craft mat and then use it like ink for stamping.

My fave colors are Patina, Irridescent Gold, Jazz Blue, Bubblegum Pink, and Mimosa. I like the bright colors! Irr Gold is great on everything--it just adds a pearly gold shimmer, no color really. I used it on my Christmas cards last year:

The paper was Anna Griffin, very delicate and thin so the paper did curl a little but the effect was still awesome--I got lots of compliments on these shimmery cards.

I used that yummy Lime Twist color!!

I have the coffee too and have just started using it. I used it with masks on cardstock and I thought it gave it a nice depth and distressed look. I also used it to tone down some really bright ribbon and flowers I had that so it would work better with my color scheme. I am still experimenting, but like it.

Jennifer, your examples are super! It creates fabulous background depth. I also mist on my non stick mat. I love it on Grungeboard too!!

I won a Tattered Angels sponsored contest and I got some mist, stamps and screens. I just love their stuff! I def want more colors, but I have to pace myself.

Jennifer, 100 bottles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!! I too, love it and would love to have more! I bought 1 at Archivers and by the end of the week, i had 6 more!! I love the look of the salt technique, Jennifer, could you go into a little more detail on how to do this?! I would love to try that!

The salt technique was invented by Cheryl McAdam of the Tattered Angels DT. She shared it with me -- basically you spray the mist onto your project then sprinkle on table salt while it is still wet. Use a heat gun to dry it. The salt will create a coarse texture on the item--just rub it off. hth

Hi I've only used glimmer mist a couple of times but I truly love it. It gives a really neat effect, and is very versatile to work with. On the Tattered Angels website they give tutorials of what you can do with the products. Check it Out!

Im a self proclaimed glimmer mist wh*re..i adore it.. I love when the paper curls, i love when its misted super fine or gloopy. I have something like 40 bottles.
If you look in my gallery there are all sorts of things with mist on it. I cant post links as Im on my phone. But yeah its fab an can be used for alot of differant looks. I just tried a new thing where you spray it in a small bowl and dry it out then put in the glossy accents..it was pretty cool. I was happy with how it looked on the LO..
I think every page ive done for the last year has some sort of mist on it. I use Graphite alot..and my new fave is caramel apple its on my "flip flop" LO I didnt like it at first but ive found that I do love it

Off to look at the Tattered Angels website, and maybe find a LSS that sell it too

I wish my LSS would carry it but they had probems with their person they go thru..i dont get how that all works..but they cant ever seem to get it. It makes me so sad to have to buy it online, because the shipping is almost always the cost of one bottle. Anyway the only way i think they could improve it is to make it sented lol

I thought they were a bit high priced so I use Shimmerz instead- $1 less per bottle

I am still wondering what makes the ranger powders stick if you make your own with re-inkers-- anyone have a clue?

Its the gum arabic thats in the mix. it is used as a binder and comes from trees. It is also added to food for viscosity and binds proteins together. Postage stamps, diet coke, gummies and lots more.

I know how you feel! I ordered to different glimmer mists from here that I am still waiting on: Pearl and Snow Angel, and I just can't wait to try it!

I just made another layout with Glimmer Mist that you can see on my blog (posted Sunday) for a class I am doing next month. It's the snow layout and features heat embossing with GM. Here's how:

Spray the mist onto a Glimmer Screen, on a craft mat.

Lift the screen and "stamp" it, wet side down, onto the page where you want it. You can press it into the paper with a paper towel.

Quickly sprinkle on clear embossing powder and gently shake off any excess.

Set aside to dry. The GM is really wet so the heat gun will burn the paper before it dries the water AND melts the embossing powder. It should dry within 30 mins.

Use a heat gun to heat set the embossing powder and make it sparkly. It's MORE sparkly than using GM or embossing powder alone, perfect for the snow page I had used it on.

I also used that salt/snow technique on the top of the page with Iridescent Gold, Old Lace, and Silver Glimmer Mists.
