looking into buying a atg gun soon???

Hi, I listened to tons of positive feedback on the atg guns. I wanted one before and I thought they were kind of pricey but know I'm willing to pay bc buying regular adhesive is costly too and they don't last long.I was also looking into the the pro glide one (the green and pink one, bc it was cheaper) So my question is what's the difference between the red and yellow atg guns? what kind of tape would I buy to use on photo's and paper or clear items? my last question is where should I buy it from?

I have the red ATG. It despenses 1/4 inch size double stick tape. I use the 3M gold tape. I compared prices on the internet. I purchased mine from a framing company. Then I buy refills in bulk to save on shipping. I do love mine. It was alittle hard to get used to at first, and refilling it was difficult for me to remember how. Thet have a youtube video on it. Enjoy!

From what I understand, the yellow one has wider tape the the red one. But I believe that's the only difference. I'm looking into getting one too! Let me know how it works out for you if you get one before me!

The red one (714) is 1/4 in, the yellow one (700) is 1/2 in. You can put an adapter in the yellow one to dispense 1/4 in tape. I was set to buy the yellow one w/ adapter for a week (cuz I like the color ), then somehow I bought the red one. I paid $48 which includes the red dispenser, 2 3M 908 gold tapes and free shipping. I'm glad though cuz it really sticks, I don't need 1/2 inch. The 1/2 inch tape also costs double. Framing supplies companies usually has a good price. Check evil bay, too. I saw a yellow one sold for $10 there before, granted it was used. For tapes, I've tried both Scotch 908 gold and generic version sold on evil bay. They feel the same to me.

The pink and green one you are talking about is a Glue Glider Pro. It's cute and pink and the catridges are easy to change. The cartridges for that are about $7-12, depending on where you buy them, and they last a little longer than a regular tape runner but not nearly as long as an ATG. Also, the tape on them breaks easily and you can't just rethread it like you can an ATG--once it is broken that cartridge is trash. I have a Glue Glider Pro to take to crops but since the tapes keep breaking and some stores seem to mark them up like 300% I have not used for a couple months.

I have the yellow ATG. If you want to do WIDE stuff, then get this one. If you only think you'll need 1/4" wide tapes then get the red one. I use 3/4" wide adhesive because I can use a little "square" of it in the corners of my pics and papers and it holds really well, making my tape last longer. HTH

I have the atg 714 (red one) and this is the one I recommend, because the tape is much cheaper,,,,

you dont really NEED the wider 1/2 tape,,,,,on the rare occasions you might NEED the 1/2 inch tape,,,,run two lines,,,,,

why pay for the expensive wider tape if you dont NEED it???

I know where you can get the gun for 42 bucks plus shipping,,,,,and I am ALWAYS getting the tape refills for about 3.50 a roll on evilbay,,,

seriously, it's the best deal on adhesive around,,,,,,

it's MUCH CHEAPER per yard than any other adhesive,,,,the stuff lasts forever, and as someone mentioned, if it breaks, just rethread it,,most other adhesives, once they break, you have to toss them,,,,,,,

do't let the size bother you,,,,,,,,

here,,,my 8 year old grandson uses it, and won't use anything else,,,,,,,

Oh, one more thing,,,,,I totally recommend the scotch GOLD (scotch 908) tape for your scrapping needs,,

no other tape GUARANTEES to be acid free,,,,they might SAY they are,,,,,but they won't GUARANTEE they are,,,,,

and they will yellow over time,,,,,,do you want your items yellowing over time???? I don't,,,,,is it worth saving a buck or even two bucks on a roll of tape to have your photos yellow in a year???? Only you can decide that of course, but I haven't found that saving a few dollars was worth it,,,,,,,,,,,especially since buying my gold tape on evilbay meant that I saved quite a bit anyway,,

I *LOVE* my ATG. I have the red one which uses the narrower tape. For me that is more versatile. While the cost of the gun is something to consider (which I did a lot of), you will actually start saving money on adhesive. So if you plan to be at this hobby for a while (which I hop you do) it is actually a cost savings to purchase the ATG!

I love mine! i just ordered my refills from the framingsupplies place 12 rolls 52.19 including shipping so I think that's pretty good. Best price I could find even looking on auction site. Hope you get one and love it!

Okay all you ATG lovers please HELP!!!! I have the pink and green glue glider and I've not had problems with it breaking...ever, and it works so smoothly...BUT the tape is expensive.

I wanted the ATG for a long time and finally got one from some wonderful friends in a swap and I'm very grateful to them. However...it doesn't work right!

I rarely use it because ever swipe, and I do mean every swipe I have to rethread it. The tape moves across the roller and when I try to nudge it back it breaks, so I have to take it apart and rethread. Occasionally I can get 3 or 4 swipes but not very often. It usually just sits on my table.

I just don't get why no one ever mentions this...is it me?

Kim, I've never had that issue. Hopefully there might be someone else here that has or that would have advice for you.

As for which... I my ATG 714! 1/4" is just perfect. I found cheap refills w/ great service at a website (not evilbay). One box of the 908 Gold 1/4" tape (12 rolls) cost me $39.60 ($3.30 ea) + shipping. You can buy rolls individually for $3.50 each.

Oh, and I think the width 1/4" is great. Easily does my thin ribbon and you really don't need a whole lot to put paper or photos down on a page. It STICKS. Another nice feature is that if you get some coming just off the edge, you can simply press it back to where you want it to stick easily. No excess showing!

I read in another website forum that Scotch had a defective batch of ATG 714, like a year or two ago. People actually had to send them in and got replacements. It had something to do about the problem that you're having. Maybe you got one of those?

Good question! I too was interested in the opinions of forum members. Its good to know that the 714 is the better choice.

The 714 is a good choice it works well on ribbons and it holds everything really well.

I love my ATG. I have had it about 3 months and I have used only 4 refills so far (although I wasn't scrapping all that heavily for awhile). I just bought a box of 12 rolls of refills for $46 with tax and shipping. I was using tombow mono adhexive, but I went through at least 2 refills a week and my pages don't stick that well.

A side question, but I've heard that left-handed people sometimes have problems with the atg .... comments?

I ordered one yesterday. My justification was this:

Gun + 4 rolls of 36 yard (gold)tape = $64.02 shipped. 4 rolls of this gold tape equals roughly 12 33ft tape runners. So 12 tape runners @ 6.00 each = $72. Saved roughly 8 bucks. Refills @ the company I purchased from is $3.95 per roll 3 roll minimum (11.85) versus 9 tape runners (54.00). Plenty of room for additional rolls and shipping charges. Now these 4 rolls should last me a good long time - maybe a year if I am frugal. I may have missed something, working it out this way helped me.

Cheapest I found for rolls was the $3.30 each when you buy a box of 12. Loved that price!

Wish I could borrow an atg for an afternoon to try it. The whole left-hand thing just adds a weird dimension and sometimes it matters (like with scissors) and sometimes it doesn't.

I just got my ATG 714 in January and I'm loving it! Also I am left-handed and I'm not having any issues with it. Even my husband, who is left-handed too, loves it. It is definitely worth the investment.

your right about one thing... the dispenser for the atg is more expensive then other adhesive- but the refill are cheaper- and have a lot more then anything ells....

when i was considering- i just did simple math- after how many meters of glue- do i break even....

if i have a full year of scraping- i will take me about a year and a half. after that the refill are cheaper for the atg......

Another fan! I love mine. I have the yellow one with the adapter. I got the larger one with the adapter since I planned to use it on other crafts and framing. I have to admit that I almost always use it with the adapter and the 1/4 inch tape.

Be sure that you are positive about placement when you use it. This thing is EXTRA STICKY! No more worries about things falling off your page.

On the tape coming off funny... I read that thread about the tape, too a while back. I have no idea where it is but some people really had a problem. The other issue that has come up on the boards is how to use the ATG gun. Some ladies were having a bit of a problem at the end of their strip which was causing problems. Hearing some of them explain on the boards really helped me with using mine. Going to see if I can explain this online for you to try...

Hold down the trigger while running the tape. Right before you get to the end, let off the trigger, but keep rolling. Then lift the gun. This will 'break' the tape so that you can lift off the page cleanly. You might try this to see.

I did have my tape getting loose while using it one time, but had the dh re-thread it and it was fine. Probably operator error! lol

I bought mine at Framing Supplies dot com for $41.69 and 12 Gold refills for 3.44 each plus shipping. That's the lowest retail I was able to find besides getting a deal on the auction site.

I'm left-handed and I still love my ATG. I buy the refills in bulk, too and I have saved a TON of money on adhesive.
It was awkward at first because the tape is on the outside instead of the inside but once you've used it a bit you don't really notice.
Maybe they'll make a left-handed version someday!

I have both... i use the small one the most for ribbon.... the large one for photos or larger items. i love the small one because it works great for most all of my ribbon and is easier than ribbon glue.

I ordered the red 714 ATG and refills from 'that framing company' ;). I will warn you they were on backorder -- I cancelled my order b/c I wanted it NOW, shopped around and could not find it for a better price (in stock), so I went back to the framing place and ordered it again. I can't wait to get it!!!! If you decide to get one....hurry and order in case you have to wait a little for the great priced company.

so thinking i need one of these. love reading all the talk about them. im left handed too, although i practically do everything with my right hand too (except for writing, that one just doesn't turn out the same, although i stall can do it and its readable) and i cant stand left handed scissors. lol. but i get that in alot of things it really matters.
