Making cardstock look like metal

I have a die that cuts hinges and latches which is great, except that I haven't found a good way to make cardstock look metallic. How do you make metallic embellies with cardstock?

I run the die through several times, then glue the stack of shapes together so it's thicker and looks more like chipboard or metal than one piece of paper would. Then, I ink it with gold/bronze/silver or some other metallic ink.

Perfect Pearls - use these a lot in misters or just coat on top of items.

I use a combo of distress inks and glimmer mist to get a rusted or aged metalic look

INK!! LOL

Perfect pearls, Smooch Spritz, Embossing powder in gold or silver, distress inks...

I would play around with different mixes until I got what I was looking for.

there is a cuttlebug embossing folder that makes paper look like metal!

For a shiny silver look, I have some tape I bought at Home Depot that is silver and shiny. Looks like alluminum foil, but it's 2" wide tape. No, it's not duct tape...its actually alluminum with a sticky backing--with paper you peel off. I use this for metal diecuts sometimes. I've made it look less shiny with metallic rubs, too. I usually put it onto cardstock first, then cut.

I saw this on a blog recently,,,,ink it with versamark and then use metallic embossing powder!!!! It looked amazing!

Wow, thanks for all of the ideas. I am going to start experimenting with them soon.

Melissa the latches on your LO look wonderful, I would have never guessed them to be cardstock.

Try embossing but mix small amounts of powder together in a small cup or container. Maybe pick a few colors from black, brown, grey, dark blue, rust, green. (You will have to experiment) Use small amounts - like maybe 1/2 tsp each and mix all together then use the mixture to emboss with. I haven't tried this but saw it on TV scrapping -- it looked great. They were making a die cut border strip look just like metal.

... okay, this is going to sound kind of weird, but, if you can find it, they do sell metallic cardstock! lol.

The versamark with embossing powder sounds interesting...

Oh yeah American Crafts makes foil cardstock. I love it! I forgot all about it. It is really shiny.

I've got a stack of DCWV cardstock that is metallic looking. I think I got it at HL. Good ideas above. I will have to use this CS. I think I've used 1 sheet of it and I've had it forever!

Spray a piece of either regular or heavy duty aluminum foil on the dull side with spray adhesive. -OR- run a piece of card stock through a Xyron adhesive sticker maker. Stick the two together and trim off the extra foil. Make sure you rub the two together very well to make sure they stay stuck. I use the back of a tablespoon. Voila, you now have metallic cardstock. If you want, you can color it using alcohol inks.

you can buy metal type stuff (not sure if it's metal or paper) that you can cut in your sizzix from home depot or lowes. It's in the metal wall/ceiling decoration section and it's used to cover switch plates and outlets. You can also find metallic paint chips.

I like the idea of mixing up the different powders. Might have to try that.
