New Cricut Imagine cons

Well i've learned a few things about the new cricut imagine from theer facebook page.

Apparently it will not cut chipboard,

you won't be able to use your design studio with it cause apparently their taking steps to prevent other companies from coming out with software for it.

In all these different airings they'll show you a stack of 60 papers and say that's how many it'll print and in the next airing they've said 80 pages or so before the ink runs out. So as to how long before your ink runs out is a bit sketchy as far as i'm concerned.

Apparently it does not print a true 12X12 yet but apparently there will be an update for that.

You can't print photos

You can't print digital pages

You can't place the blade where you want it to start cutting

And you can't weld either.

So you may want to keep your other cricut machine if you buy the imagine.

lol

I figured the page cost just paper and ink to be about $1.65! Way too high for me LOL
Plus it is huge!

Does the expression cut chipboard?

No it won't cut chipboard. oops yes it does but the new imagine won't.

With a deep cut blade and/or multi cut an E will cut chipboard. I find it easier to cut 4 or 5 of the same character and glue them together.

It's neat and all but way too expensive for my taste.

I'm not thrilled with the types of ink...one cart for black and one for the colors. that could get expensive and wasteful.

I can print a 12x12 piece of patterned paper on my Epson printer for under $1.00

I agree Marlene! It's easier to cut multiple images and glue them together.

Yeah, PC is famous for the "THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE FOR THAT!!!!"....almost never happens and when it does it takes FOREVER.

And I'm sorry...can I rant for a moment?

The concept of the Cricut is all nice and good but PC and their insane attempts to protect their intellectual property runs at a complete opposition to what scrapbooking is all about.

We scrapper see art in EVERYTHING and scrapping is about creating art from OTHER art. That is 100% what SCRAPBOOKING is about. We take other people's art, tear it up, cut it up, ink it up, glue it up and mix it up. You can give one sheet of PP to 10 scrappers and end up with 10 extremely different art pieces.

So for them to constantly try to attack that with their "angel policy" and their rules that cannot ever be enforced just pisses me off.

They refuse to make anything but cutesy/whimsical cartridges and then get angry at people who want to modify the machine.

I'm sorry but once you buy a machine you can do what you want with it and they cannot control that or complain about that.

Ok here's one that you'll love if ya have a cricut and don't want to buy that expensive George and Basic Shapes Cartridge. And it totally works on my create and the video shows it done on and expression.

Apparently the cricuts come with the george and basic shapes cartridges pre-loaded onto our machines. But most people do'nt know it.

And yah I know it probably voids your warranty and I was very scared to try it but it totally works!!! I used some mat board for mine and it didn't hurt my create in any way what soever.

Whew I finally got an answer to this question from cricut! I asked this on the official cricut page.

I'll try asking this again. I have the cricut create. Will you be discontinuing future cartridges that will be compitable with it now that the imagine is out? PLEASE Cricut I hope you can answer my question. I was only finally able to afford my create last spring and I only have a few carts and i'd to hate to have jus...t purchased something only to be told that I can no longer get carts for it??????????????????

Yeah. That's because when you open up the George cartidge there is nothing inside, no memory. All it does is work as a key to open up software already inside the machine.

Just the george cart sadly. lol Little bit of dirty pool putting it on our machines and not being able to use it unless you do this. Why spend money for what you already have? Kinda a racket. Just my opinion though.

I think the Imagine sounds very unimaginative. It takes the "work" out of scrapbooking. Hello - that's the part I like. It's all about the process. And I bet those ink cartridges don't go very far. And you can't glimmer mist over ink jet ink or use crystal accents over it.

They should throw their research and development money into developing cartridges that are more trendy or technology that would allow you to download cartridges for a reduced price from their site. They could sell them for less, increase sales through volume, and help the enviromment by cutting down on packaging.

Sorry but PC is much more interested in making new machines because their goal is to protect their intellectual property. They have patents out (according to a few threads on the Cricut website) for 7 new machines and they keep promising more and more. They want the big bucks for the machines, they want to create new needs for new intellectual property and they want ways to block competition on software.

Also, their attitude towards their customer base is demeaning and silly. When the Cricut Circle came out they sent out an email to a "select few" (read; everyone eventually, but not all at first) and the email said "Be the envy of your friends!"...aren't we supposed to be grown ups? Isn't scrapbooking supposed to be an art?

Agree 100%. I enjoy my cricut, but I wish they would concentrate on developing a wider design itinerary and approach their marketing as if they were targeting artists and designers, not a gaggle of little tween girls.

But the scary thing is they are very successful marketing their products, though I think the cake was a bit of a bomb. They throw us the bait and we consistently bite.

That is one reason I moved to these boards, this boards seem much more about the art than the latest thing. I felt like I was back in jr. high on those other boards and I felt like PC was egging it on.

What angers me is the fact that PC won't open their eyes long enough to realize that all the 3rd party software has proabably actually increased Cricut sales. I know a few people that originally did not want the Cricut because they did not want to have to buy cartridges, but bought the Cricut and SCAL together, and then eventually ended up buying carts anyway!

I did the exact same thing, I researched the cricut before I was going to spend any money on it. I actually got SCAL first and waited till I found a personal cricut on sale at Joanns.

I can't believe PC would deprive us the use of our CDS with the Imagine just so another company will not make software for it. I didn't buy the Imagine and now I'm happy b'c I LOVE my CDS more than anything.
