Tool caddy or what?

I am getting ready to start setting up my own scrappy room (my oldest daughter is moving out and going away to college ) and I am trying to get everything organized. Right now I keep most of my tools in drawers or a tote bag because of limited space. In my new area I should have a good sized table/desk and I want most of them out for easy use. Sooo...what do you use for your tools, pens etc? Do you keep them on your desk, mounted on the wall? (Please let me know if you have pics I can check out.)

Yay for your scrap room! I had one too.....until DD moved back home

Will you be going to crops? If so, I would look for a portable caddy. That way you can grab and go, and not have to pack for a crop.

My DD swears she will only be coming home for holidays so I am going for it!! I don't go to many crops...yet...but that is something to think about...thanks.

I have a rolling caddy with drawers for pens, my brad boxes, punches etc....everything else, scissors, adhesive, hole punch, xacto knife, distresser, sanding blocks is in a small plastic caddy on top of my paper holders. Everything is literally an arms length away.

My DD leaves for college next Fall. I kinda felt guilty taking over her room, but she says she will only be home for holidays.
I may go for it and take over her room. It has a day bed and a sweet desk already!

I know this is a dumb question but did you just get the pegboard at a Home Depot-store? Does it come in different sizes? Can you paint it? Thanks for your help.

I felt guilty too but it seems silly to let the room sit empty (like a shrine or something) plus she is packing up all her things. And this way my DH and I will each have our own hobby spaces and all my scrappy stuff can get out of our bedroom.

Well you have definatley made me feel less guilty. She has even told me to go for it. She doesn't plan on ever moving back home. Does make me a little sad though!

I bought it at Home Depot and they will cut it to size. Mine are 24 x 48 & were precut. They come in white & brown. My Dh has painted them before, but I was happy with mine white.

I use something similar to product below. And in it I keep scissors, hole punches, rulers, bone folder, paper piercer, glue eraser, glue pens, corner rounders, tweezers, ...and other small stuff. Mine is on a turntable. I totally love it.

I have some small shelves on the wall in front of my table and I keep my paper trimmers on them.

I have one of those. Mine doesn't turn or anything but I like the accessability of all my tools. I keep it on my desk. I don't go to crops (b/c there isn't any place to go) anymore, but I took it with me when I did go.

I felt guilty taking over my DD's room, too. Until she moved back. Then I was totally feeling irritated

I forgot to mention one thing about the caddies that I linked....I like mine because it spins. It's super handy to spin that thing around and grab my most-used tools quickly. It keeps my dining room table top (sigh) neat. I continued to use it on DD's desktop when I had use of her room.

I use one from Hobby Lobby- it was in the art dept and with a coupon I think I paid about $3.50 for it- I like it ALOT!! It turns, has several different sized holes as well as a center and bottom part, it sits right next to me at my table. I'd be lost without it!

Unfortunately there is no Hobby Lobby where I live... But there are a couple of art supply stores I can check out.

And I have to say...after checking out your scraproom pics in your gallery...I can't decide if I don't like you ('cuz I am green with envy since it's so organized and fantastic) or if I want to be your new best friend and come live with you!!!

You can also use silverware holders or recycle dishwasher baskets, longer baskets can be hung on the side of the desk or table.

Both my sons will be moving out sometime this summer. I definately plan on doing some remodeling lol. One going in air force..other one finishes RN school in may..already has a job starting next month is a huge hospital ICU . I will have a day bed in craft room ready for anytime they want to come to visit

How funny...I too will have a daybed that will be in my room...for when my DD comes home to visit...with cute new bedding that totally coordinates with my scrappy stuff of course!!

Me too.

A few years ago Costco had 2 of these totes (a tiny one and larger one). Mine has the spinning base, which is really nice.

I also love my tote-ally cool, but if you go that route I'd recommend finding one with a turntable built in, or finding a turntable for it, makes it so much easier to access your tools. And it is really handy if you start going to crops.

I think this completely depends on how and where you will scrap most.

I travel, so I like having my stuff portable. I don't have any desk-top organization.

Also I don't go to crops often since I have a monthly group that meets up at my house so I'm just the opposite of Linda on that. I do have a small tote for crops but it mostly just collects dust

I use the Pampered Chef turnaround for my painting supplies, the Lazy Susan bucket with the canvas on the outside for storage of things I don't need immediately to hand, and I have a basket on my table with dividers in it for the things I need all the time.

Looks like folks here are giving you lots of good options!

I use the pen holder from my crop in style XL tote. I have it on my table on a kitchen lazy susan. I also have some pens and tools in tin buckets from Target's dollar section. You can see them in my gallery.

You guys have some great ideas. Thanks! I do have two totes to use when I go to a friends or to a crop but here in Alaska that doesn't happen too often. I have also seen several people who use pegboards in their scraproom. I may do this in addition to some desktop storage. Any one out there use a pegboard??

My designated scrap space is mu dining room table. At my workspace I have my magnetic craft mat. Directly in fron of my space is a rectangular caddt that holds my most used adhesives, a basket that contains my rulers, scissors, exacto knife, hole punches, emery boards and such. I also have a pringles can that my daughter and I decorated with pp and buterflies that holds pencils and my white pens. I also bought a round pen holder thingee that contains a bunch of gel pens from staples.

Congrats, on the personal creative space. It is a good thing! I have been scrapping for years in many minimal spaces. It is only in the last year I had a space to myself. I have learned a lot in organization and use.
I keep my pens, pencils, paintbrushes in an old wine rack that I got at a garage sale with cut down wine bottles for holders. You could use large water glasses as well. I have old lazy susans I got at thrift stores with my tool racks and totes on. My punches are on towel racks I got from Lowes. The rest is pretty easy, paper separators and such.

My handy husband added a lazy Susan turn table to my scrap tote and I highly recommend it. It is absolutely great at crops. I also keep mine to my right hand side at my desk at home.

I purchased a smaller tote for my markers and colored pencils.

Well congrats on the room and dont worry they come back from time to time. I am getting my room I think next week. My son dont know it but I will grab that room real quick. But it will take me a week just to clean that MESS... LOL. But anyway enjoy putting it together and dont forget to take pictures of the before and after. We love that stuff. I will do the same. Just have fun. Think of whats suits you best. What ever you have as GO TOs.

I have the making memories carousel. It fits a ton of stuff. the drawers are a little awkward because of the shape, however my creative memories corner punch fits perfect. I keep my small mm stapler and staples in one drawer. Several brands of small glue runners(american crafts this to that and the adtech ones) will fit. I also store my edge distress and extra blades for my trimmer in the drawers.

If you go to a lot of crops and dont want to have to move things i would suggest the totally tool totes. They hold quite a bit too!

I agree with the others. I also have the Tote-ally Tote with swivel base and it does hold LOTS. It's so easy and portable.
