Copic Markers Bleeding?

I've been asked if the PERFECT CRAFTING POUCH stops Copics from bleeding. First I was confused b/c I thought they were supposed to bleed. But then they explained BLEND-yes, BLEED-no.

The problem was the markers were bleeding into certain papers. I had to say that I didn't know if the pouch would help b/c I never used Copics.

So my question is...if any of you have Copics and also have the pouch, if you've found the markers to bleed into certain absorbent papers, did you try the pouch and did it stop the bleeding? I can only guess it probably would work since the pouch stops water-based, permanent, and even fabric markers on twill tape...but I'd definitely like to know if you have experience.

There are quite a few factors that determine how much the colours will bleed. The red pigment colours will bleed a lot since there is so much pigment in these inks. The paper density and fibre density will also determine how much the inks bleed. Humidity, paper thickness, and how much ink you've laid down on the paper will determine how much the ink will bleed. In order to get the inks to blend, you do need to soak the area of the paper with ink. I honestly don't think that the perfect pouch will stop the ink from travelling if the ink is being applied properly since it soaks into the paper and not just on the surface.

Doesn't the Perfect Pouch apply some kind of powder to the paper? Then it would not be good with Copic since the tips of Copic markers are sensitive and clog if you run them over any kind of particulate.

In answer to the first post...the pouch stops stamps and other inks from bleeding into fabric, twill tape and ribbon...even though that ink soaks into the fabric. It only allows it to soak in where it is supposed to, though, and not spread into the fiber.

As for the markers getting damaged...what kind of tip is it? It doesn't damage zig markers for example when I write on vellum. I'd be surprised if the pouch could clog a marker but maybe I don't understand how Copics are designed.

I heard from one person that it did work great but I'm asking for verification if others use it too.

Do you have Copics, a pouch, have you had issues with certain papers bleeding, and you don't think there would be issues about the pouch causing the markers to clog? If so, you sounds like a perfect tester!!!!

The perfect papaer really makes a difference with copics. Make sure you use a heavy card stock weight and even with red it will not bleed. My fave is Cryogen very rarely does it bleed I have to be really heavy handed to make it bleed.

I also like X-Press and Hammermill but the Cryogen is the best in my opinion.

I haven't had any problems with my Copics bleeding, but I use good quality cardstock with them.

But my question really is--if you use any "old" paper you want--does bleeding happen and does the pouch stop it? Or if you are "heavy handed"...would the pouch stop the bleeding even then?

I don't know that answer sorry! I would be afraid to use anything with my copics I mean yeah tips are that expensive but I do like to protect them.

It might be that the bleeding is due to the type of ink--Alcohol--that the copics are made from. You can color metal & glass with these so they are just like the Tim Holtz alcohol inks. The papers that Jane uses & I have also experimented with have to be a good cardstock or specifically for Copic markers. The tips are nothing like the Zig pens so I do not think using powder would be adviseable. IMHO...

I found that I can write on paint with Zig but with Copic, it clogs the tip. I know they said something in Copic Certification class but I can't remember what and I know from experience that the tips will clog if you write over Chalk Ink for example.

I will test this on Sunday but please PM me and remind me! I've a lot of other "normal" life going on right now. Yes, I have Copics, I have a pouch, I have paper that I love to use with Copics and that works well and paper that I know will bleed. Marker tips are easily replaceable so I don't care if the powder clogs them. And I can be "heavy-handed" with ink. It's an interesting question!

Thanks Kara! Kara sent me an email with some very interesting results of her coloring with Copics on Copic-friendly papers that were both treated and not treated with the Perfect Crafting Pouch to compare the difference in bleeding.

"Right off the bat you can see that the pouch does have an effect! I used marker R27, Cadmium Red, because the reds are the most notorious for bleeding (as you can see even on the Cryogen which is my favorite paper to use with Copics. From examining the back of the paper, it looks like what the powder is doing is preventing the ink from spreading out to the edge of the top of the paper as quickly, so as it saturates through to the back of the paper it doesn't bleed out as quickly.I don't feel that the powder is clogging the marker, but I suppose the only real test of that would be a major coloring afternoon."

I'm going to do more testing this weekend, I'm wondering if there are applications where using the pouch with Copics could be particularly useful. The 'perfect' situation of using the right stamp or printing inks with the right paper can't always be accomplished, or may not always be desirable.
