Big Shot Cutting plate

I just broke my cutting plate I was embossing and heard a HUGE crack,,,,,,,,,and sure enough, the plate busted in two!

I know these things need replacing every so often, but after 3 months????? I've used it pretty regularly though,,,,,

But how often DO you need to replace them??

Was it you that broke a Cuttlebug machine as well or was that someone else???

I'm not sure about the big shot plates, sorry. That stinks though!

hmmmm, I haven't had one break, but I have had quite a few cracking noises, usually when they get old. I don't use mine all that often, But I am always sure to rotate and flip them so as not to wear one too much.

No I didnt' break a cuttlebug

I did email Sizzix,,,,,it says it SHOULD last 3-5 THOUSAND times,,,,,

not even close PLUS there was a bad batch floating around out there, so we'll see what they say.

The set that came with my Big kick three years ago is still going... well, I wouldn't say going strong, they're quite warped and they leave an impression on the back of the paper - but they haven't broken yet. My husband bought me a new pair quite some time ago but I've really barely used them, I just keep going back to the warped ones and saving the new ones for projects where I can't have the impression on the back.

If you were using a Big Shot (Big Kick), are you sure you wre using the right tab setting (sandwich)? You might try using a lesser one - if it doesn't cut, you could always run it through again on a thicker tab.

yep, I'm sure,,,,

but here's what I'm NOT sure of,,,,

I don't have a tan mat,,,,I have a plumber's thingy,,,,everyone says they are the same,,,,

not so sure,,,,,maybe it's too thick or something??

I'm going to buy new cutting pads and the actual tan mats that go with it,,,,,,,

Were you using both cutting plates with the rubber mat? *Technically* the Nesty instructions say to use one acrylic plate, two tan mats, and a triple-thick layer of cardstock. But this still shouldn't have cause the plate to actually break, it sounds defective.

Also, I did a little research last week. The tan mats are latex and the plumber's mats are rubber - so very similar but not exactly the same. I think I'm going to buy the tan mats.

not sure if you're thinking of me...but I have broken a cuttlebug machine. In fact completely blew out the side of one! :oops: I felt horrible, as it wasn't mine, but a store I scrap at! Lucky for me, they were phasing out carrying it, so they would have had to get rid of it eventually....it is now the running joke when I crop there if I'm trying to emboss something!

Oh Holly.... I am sooo sorry to hear that on your new machine! lol Let's hope mine doesn't have the bad batch since I only got it in May.

These are the "tan" mats they're talking about - you don't need them to cut, but you need them to emboss with the nestability dies. I didn't buy mine until 6 months or so after I bought my first nestbilities as I tend to use them to cut rather than emboss.

CommaHolly - I have a cuttlebug and all I was told was to make sure I flip my plates over and rotate them after every cut. I bought it second hand and had to replace my fist set quite quickly but I've had these ones for about six months and they seem to be fine. Although my tattered florals die (sizzix Bigz) seems to have a bigger impact on it than the nesties.

Holly they had a bad ones that had something wrong with them it could have been that. Also it could be that they were just wore out Mine has thousands of cuts those but I try to rotate the way I run them through....I really need to buy new ones too!
