waifer thin dies - magnetic platform

I really like the idea of the thin dies though i don't have any. I use a cuddle bug. Is there a platform like the sizzix one or can the sizzix one be used on the cuddlebug?

Hopefully it can be used! I've got one, but haven't tried it yet, but it's the same size (except thickness) as the plates, so I don't see why it wouldn't. If not, I guess I have one thing I can purge :>) If no one else answers you, I'll find a clear space on my desk and give it a try. I'm in the middle of re-arranging everything so for now, it's in a worse mess than before, but I have a small spot on my desk that the 'bug would fit :>)

OK...forget what I just wrote. I was reading one thing and thinking something else. I was thinking "magnetic plate". As far as regular plates, I use the thin dies all the time. It needs the C plate, which doesn't come with the cuttlebug, or at least it didn't come with mine. I don't see the C plate on the sb store, but you can easily find the plate at other places.

I use the Lifestyle Crafts Genius with my Big Shot, it says it works in the Cuttlebug, too.

The genius platform works in the newer model of the Cuttlebug and not the original one from what I have read.

I read on Splitcoast that it does not fit. The sizzix is just a touch wider than the cuttlebug. I had purchased the TH wordplay die and it wouldn't fit in my CB. I had to get a big shot.

I just read in another review that there is 1/8" difference in the genius and the sizzix magnetic. It also says the sizzix won't fit in cuttlebug. I didn't realize until I read the review that genius was magnetic also. That's nice.

Now I'm going to have to go on a scavenger hunt to find my magnetic plate. According to the online dimensions it would fit, but who knows. I at least know where my 'bug is :>)

I have the "old" CB and the magnetic Genius plate does not fit, but it does fit the newer model CB. It also fits the Big Shot.
The thin dies can be used with the CB and its regular plates. My CB came with the A, 2 B's and C plates.
I'm going to see if my dh might be able to grind the magnetic plate down a bit. I'll let you know if it works..

You can buy a magnet sheet and cut it to size. You can cut more than one to make it thicker. Or add layers of cardstock till it's the right thickness. Problem solved.

I don't understand the purpose of Magnetic plates. I cut all types (brands) of thin dies in my GC.

A magnetic plate just helps keep things in place, and I like that the Genius platform is long - it's convenient when you're using multiple dies at the same time, or when you want to position the die over a specific image or pattern on your paper. One could also use washi or removable paper tape to hold everythng down.

ohhh I am glad someone else asked about the magnetic plates. I was confused. I have the big shot. guess I need to buy some and try it.

You definitely need one. I have the Big Shot and I love the magnetic plate. I started using it for my thin metal dies instead of the regular platform. It's so nice not to have them moving all over the paper.

A couple of nights ago I used my Cuttlebug v.2 with the Spellbinders Magnetic Spacer Plate and it fits fine. Actually it's smaller than the regular A, B, & C plates. I just need to go watch some videos on how to use it since it didn't make sense to me...not User Error, just User Dumbness

The white side says to place dies on the opposite side of mat. That I understand. Then it says, "Do not cut into mat". Fortunately it also tells where online instructions can be found :>) If the cut side isn't facing the mag. mat, then I don't see how it helps in placing the die over the design in the paper that I want to cut. Later today I'll go check out some videos...but at least I know the magnetic plate fits :>) Whew...I was afraid I'd have to actually purge something!

What is the Spellbinders magnetic spacer mat made of? Is it metal, or some kind of flexible rubbery material?

If it's a black flexible mat, then it's a lot cheaper to buy a large magnet sheet and cut it to size. That way you can have several of them and double them up if you need a thicker layer.

It's a rubbery, flexible mat. I got it really cheap on a J's sale so figured it was a good chance to play with it. If I mess it up, it's only a couple $$ lost, but the spellbinder's site wasn't any help, nor was YouTube. I'll just cut into it, then buy the magnetic sheets, like you suggested. Hubs pretty much lives at HomeDepot, so buying it is no problem :>) I'll see how long this spellbinders one lasts. To me, the only reason to use the magnetic plate is to cut out a specific area of the paper, but you need to be able to see the design through the die. At least I'm thinking I may not be quite as dense as I had thought I was :>)

I've used the spellbinder's magnetic spacer. The way I used it was that I:

1. put it down on my bottom plate

2. placed my dies on top of it, with the cutting side of the dies facing up

3. place my paper on top of the cutting dies

4. put my top plate in place

I didn't have any problems with my paper moving around & the dies definitely stayed where I placed them.

Yes, those are the directions that are shown everywhere, but I don't really have that much of a problem with dies moving around. I wanted to use the magnet to keep the die centered over a specific design, such as a stamped design. That means having to look through the die to see the design and that can't be done if the paper is on the top. I'll just cut up my magnet plate and buy more as I need them :>)

Does anyone know f the Sizzix magnetic plate comes in the extended size like the extended multi purpose platform? I want to buy one. Will buy the smaller plate if that is the only size it is available in, but don't want to buy the smaller one & find out later that it was available in the extended length. Thanks

Kathryn, I don't know about the Sizzix platform or how well it performs, but the Genius one is 6"x13" and works pretty well.

As I suggested earlier, just buy a magnet sheet, which is 12" x 24" long (or longer, depending on which brand you buy). You can cut it up into whatever sizes you need. The one I use is by Nicole Crafts (which may be going out of business) and it's available at AC Moore.

Otherwise, magnet sheets are available online, or at Home Depot as air conditioner covers.
