Hello

I am a avid scrapjazz.com user. I figured what the heck and why not finally sign up for scrapbook.com.

What are some good pointers for scrapbook.com?

I am wondering about the Challenges and how you go about them? I was looking through them and they are ran much differently then scrapjazz.com. I would like to try some out at some point. I was reading one and noticed only posts during that month are accepted. But I like to challenge myself and go back and try some older ones.

Each hostess sets up their challenges differently.
A lot are set up by the month, therefor you'd post your work for that month under that challenge. Some close sign ups at a certain point at the beginning of the month, meaning if you didn't get in there before the set deadline you'd have to wait till the following month. Many/most of the challenges are done each month. That being said, I think most of the hostesses are pretty flexible and may let you participate even after the date as long as timing wasn't a factor in the challenge, like the Ugly pp challenge, because pps need to be mailed out by a certain date, etc.
Don't hesitate to jump in a challenge and ask, but I do suggest reading the rules of each challenge first. But we are all pretty friendly here and it doesn't hurt to ask!!

I've been to Scrapjazz and had a hard time getting around there!! I'm a creature of habit and just way to used of the format here.

Enjoy the challanges! The swaps are super fun too. Click on All Forums and then scroll down to swaps.

The challenges are soooo much fun. I find they push me to use stuff or techniques I haven't tried yet or lean to. Many of them you can jump right in on. For example the Color Challenge, 4 Categories Challenge, Girls/Boys Only Challenge, and the 5 Ingredients Challenge are all pretty much open to contribute up until the end of the month deadline. They are a hoot and a half. I would say its near the end of the month and you may only want to try one or two challenges, but since I am totally behind, myself, and hope to get a ton of scrapping done this weekend I say go for it...I'll be right there with you till the last minute.

Side note: If you haven't uploaded to this site before you might want to practice uploading a LO you have already completed. That way you won't be trying to learn something new under a dead line. Sometimes adding to the "products used" section can be tedious, but its a great tool incase somebody else is totally inspired by your work.

Welcome! Great tips from some of the ladies here. Hope you find some challenges you like and participate. As some of the gals have already pointed out, most of the challenges are hosted by other members, not the site (although they will host some from time to time), so read the rules and reach out to the hostess if you have any questions. I find the most challenging part to be leaving praise as there are so many talented ladies and they produce a lot of work!

I probably wont be doing any challenges this month maybe not towards the middle of next month.

Scrapjazz is pretty close to this website. So, it was pretty quick to get used to it. The challenges are a lot different from here and there.

Both sites used to be owned by the same people, don't know if they still are- but that's why they are similar!! I know some members go to both sites.

Hmm who knows who owns scrapjazz still. Yeah I know someone that is on scrapjazz that is on here as well.

Just nice to be a part of another group.

Yes, ScrapJazz is owned by Scrapbook.com, and many of us "over there" come here too. There used to be official challenges and a store on SJ too, but they removed them a few years ago and concentrated on developing this site instead, but kept the forums and Gallery. That's when we started our own COWs and SOWs over there, with no deadline. Challenges here are quite different and have changed a lot in the past year. For the better, I think. But you're right, they will all have deadlines for entering.

What is a SOW and a COW ?!

Yes...the challenges are fun...get your feet and try one!! If you are inspired by some older challenges-certainly make the LOs, you just cant add them to an old month. The Pagemaps and Sketch challenges would certainly be inspiring at any time! On that note...the Scraplift Your Favorite challenge is one where you can do an older challenge...inspired by a LO from a previous month. Have fun...with NSD just around the corner, you'll want to become familiar with how to post a LO right away!!

SOW's are sketches of the week
COW's are just weekly challenges you give 1-4 things to do on a layout such as

Use brads, 3 photos and pp

I have already uploaded oddles of photos to my gallery.

I am sure uploading photos into the forum shouldn't be all that different then scrapjazz. But I will have to look and see.

I wont be doing any scrapbooking this year on NSD I have to much going on that day. Bridal shower and a bachelorette party.

It does seem like everyone is pretty nice and helpful on this site.

Welcome! I just joined a couple months ago and have found the challenges to be a lot of fun. I do manually write each one down each month on a 1/2 sheet of paper, then take pictures of the sketches and such with my phone.

I find when doing a LO and pulling out my challenge notes / requirements it helps me combine several. I really enjoy seeing how many challenges I can combine for a project. Pushes my creativity out of the box.

Hello and Welcome! Curious as to how the challenges are different....I run a few here and aside from them being monthly, I don't require signups-if you want to you can but you don't have to that way if you get to it-great! no pressure!

I made myself a type of master list and add if there are new challenges, and I'll glance at it when I have time to scrap and enter a challenge.....

MOST of the challenges are just listed in the forum discussion area but some are also listed in the Gallery tab above/challenges area......

To put your project into a forum:
How to Post a project into the forum discussion:

Click on your LO in your gallery
Look in the column to the right until you see the word “link”-click
Move “dot” into “IMG CODE”
Move dot into “Larger” if desired
Click on box below that, it says- “copy and paste”
It will now be highlighted –right click “copy”
Now go to the forums-challenge discussions tab (find the challenge you want to enter) and use the reply box at the bottom of the page and click “paste”

We have SOWs = Sketch Of the Week and COWs = Challenge Of the Week.

We just start a new thread in our Challenge forum (we don't have fancy Gallery things like here) each week with a random sketch that we've found on the net, or created ourselves, and anyone can create a LO based on it. We upload to our Galleries, and post our LOs in the thread, and share comments with the other posters. Some kind person keeps a master list thread with the current challenges.

Ditto the COWs, which are generally 3-ish things to include on a LO; items, subjects, techniques, ideas. Anyone can post a COW or SOW.

There are no prizes and no deadlines or commitment, so no pressure. It's just a jumping-off point to get us scrapping and a nice little community of encouragement. They can be combined as well, as many as you like. It's fun and I wish I was doing it this year but I just have too many things going on.

I'm assuming from your screen name that your name is Jenni. We like to be on a first name basis around here, real or alias, whatever your comfortable with. Its helpful if you add your name to your 'signature' as it helps us get acquainted with one another. You can add your name under 'your account/forum setting/signature'. You can see below, that I always add my challenges or other creative commitments to my signature. It helps me stay on track and minimize those 'senior moments.'

There's a lot of great ladies and lots of inspiring talent on this site. Feel free to send folks you met a friend request, these are always welcome, so their posts will show up in your 'activity list.' Its much easier to keep track of friends you met along the way and it gives you a current list of posts you can leave comments on if you like. If you find someones work you admire and want to keep up with them, you can 'subscribe' (bottom lower right on the screen) to them and you'll get an email everytime they upload a new project.

Sounds like you're getting a handle on the challenges, some are open all month, some fill up and close for the current month. Just depends how the hostess sets them up. But almost all of them recur monthly so if you miss one, no worries, you can always join the next month.

Of course we use our own language around here too, like SOW and COW, so here's a link to our most common acronyms. Its too long a list to memorize, but its a handy reference tool. Follow this link and 'Add to Favorite Topics' (again in the bottom right corner of the page) that way you can easily find it when you need it. To find it again, just look under the 'Forum" tab across the top and scroll down to 'Your Favorites.' Anything you want to keep track of like challenges, swaps, non-SB related threads or other hangouts, you can just 'Add it to Your Favorites' and they will all show up under your list. When you no longer need to find the thread (ie, the challenge is over) Just go to the thread and click the link again to remove yourself.

I have a question. It looks like a lot of the challenges have Public Embedding. I am wondering if I should go back and embed on the layouts I have posted on here already?

Only if you plan on adding them to a challenge.
Otherwise you don't need to.

Okay sounds good. For the Volume challenge should those be emedded as well?

I don't know anything about that challenge- but basically you embed if you want to be able to link. So, in that challenge, once you've uploaded to the gallery, if you need to bring the upload into the thread, then you'd want to check the "embed" option.
